New twist as State cancels licenses for 9 private security firms

Nine major security companies have had their operating licenses cancelled over allegations of violating various regulations. The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) gazetted the names of the companies highlighting their failures in a notice. This is likely to affect their operations at large given they have employed thousands of people and are in business. PSRA Director General Fazul Mahamed announced in the notice to appear in national newspapers. “Take notice: the Authority shall be conducting periodic reviews of the compliance status of Private Security Companies with the provisions of the Act, consequently, the lists of registered private security service providers and those whose registration certificates have been cancelled shall be regularly updated,” he sa...

Liberia’s presidential race goes to run-off

A run-off election will be held next month in Liberia following a photo finish between President George Weah and his main rival Joseph Boakai. Mr Weah got 43.83% of the vote and Mr Boakai, a former vice-president, received 43.44%. The 10 October poll was the tightest presidential contest in Liberia since a civil war ended about two decades ago. A run-off was predicted, but Mr Boakai, 78, has done better than expected by coming close to Mr Weah's tally. A second round was triggered as neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round. Tana River Chief Officer Arrested In Possession Of Undeclared Ksh.2.7M

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday arrested the Tana River chief finance officer in possession of Ksh2.7 million at Malindi Airport on her way to Nairobi. According to a source at the commission, got an intelligence report from its coastal regional office that Mariam Bunu had been intercepted at the airport with some Ksh.6 M in cash that she could not account for.  Officers were then dispatched to the airport where they seized documents showing that she was travelling to Nairobi for "official duty." After conducting further probe, it was discovered that Bunu was in possession of undeclared cash amounting to Ksh.2.7 million.
