Alarm as 7,000 snub university places despite qualifying

Over seven thousand 2020 KCSE students who qualified for the university under government sponsorship failed to take part in the revision exercise subsequently missing out on enrollment. In the 2020 KCSE examination, some 142,540 candidates obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service data indicates that 128,073 students were placed to degree courses while 6,617 opted for diploma courses in technical colleges. “7850 with C+ (Plus) and above failed to apply,” Education CS George Magoha said. University staff threaten to down tools over CBA

Non-academic staff at public universities have threatened to go on strike after their employers failed to implement the 2017/2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Members of the Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) are also demanding to be paid their full salaries. “Money was released in two tranches. (Some) Sh6.6 billion was the first tranche which was released in July last year. The second tranche, Sh2.2 billion, was released last month. The CBA should be implemented fully if there’s anything else we do not know,” said Dr Charles Mukhwaya, Kusu secretary-general.
