CS Munya announces directive to reduce cost of maize flour

The government has suspended all levies on imports for maize and animal feed products effective July 1, 2022. The announcement was made by Agriculture CS Peter Munya who said that the directive would help bring down the cost of maize flour  “The government is looking into ways and means of addressing the cost of unga to bring it down so that consumers can afford it,” CS Munya said after inspecting the importation of maize from Tanzania at the Namanga Border Post. Some of the costs that have been waived include KEBS levy, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) levy, AFRA levy, Port Health Service levy, KRA levy, Railway Development levy, and Importation Declaration Fund levy. Flour companies have also been granted permission to import maize without paying tax duty...

Raila Odinga Takes Azimio Campaigns To Rift Valley

Azimio la Umoja coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga will over the weekend tour various areas in the vast Rift Valley region. Odinga will start his visit in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Friday where he is expected to attend the funeral of the late ‘men’s conference’ patron Jackson Kibor before addressing a rally at Iten. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chief will, on Saturday, then proceed to West Pokot County where he will make stopovers at Ortum trading centre (10am), Alale trading centre (12:30pm) and Lomut trading centre (2:30pm). On Sunday, Odinga will take the Azimio la Umoja caravan to Turkana County where he will attend a church service in Lodwar.
