Lampard Urges Chelsea To Emulate 2012 Shock Run To Euro Glory

Frank Lampard has urged Chelsea to ignore the turmoil enveloping his struggling side as he invoked the memory of the Blues' incredible run to Champions League glory in 2012. Lampard is back in charge of Chelsea until the end of the season after replacing the sacked Graham Potter last week. After watching Chelsea crash to a lacklustre 1-0 defeat at Wolves in his first game in charge on Saturday, Lampard takes them to Real Madrid for a daunting Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday. Chelsea are languishing in 11th place in the Premier League after a dismal campaign that included Thomas Tuchel being sacked in September and Potter lasting only seven months before his dismissal. The west Londoners have managed to progress to the last eight in Europe despite thei...

Sky News Australia Quits TikTok, Says Security Risks ‘Too Great’ For Media

Australian broadcaster Sky News has left TikTok because of security concerns that have led several Western governments to ban the video app on devices used by officials. In an article published on the Sky News Australia website Monday, digital editor Jack Houghton said the security risks posed by the “Beijing-controlled platform” were “too great for any serious news publisher.” “TikTok is a spy network masquerading as a social media platform which has been proven to illegally pilfer the data of journalists, public citizens and politicians,” Houghton wrote. “We urge [media organizations] to consider this dilemma and stop trading security and integrity for a few worthless views,” he added. CNN has reached out to TikTok for a response. Experts say the security fears behind...

Two prominent Chinese human rights lawyers, including one who had called for leader Xi Jinping to resign, have been jailed for over a decade, an advocacy group and one of the men's wives said Monday. Both were leading figures in the New Citizens' Movement, a civil rights group that called for constitutional reform and criticised government corruption. Xu, who called for President Xi to step down over his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, was jailed for 14 years after a closed-door trial in east China's Shandong province, advocacy group Human Rights Watch said. Ding was "jailed for 12 years and deprived of political rights for three years", his wife Luo S...

Crisis Looms In Counties As Governors Say Treasury Yet To Disburse Funds For Four Months

Operations in a majority of counties have been paralysed following the delayed disbursement of funds from the National Treasury for four consecutive months. According to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who appeared before the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Thursday, Treasury owes county governments about Ksh.96 billion arrears accrued from January this year. Governors have decried the dire situation saying they’re staring at the possibility of strikes by county staff over delayed salaries. The financial crisis across all counties continues to deepen with the devolved units now entering the fourth month without their monthly disbursement from the exchequer. Facebook Owner Meta Releases AI Model That Can Identify Items Within Images

Facebook owner Meta published an artificial intelligence model on Wednesday that can pick out individual objects from within an image, along with a dataset of image annotations that it said was the largest ever of its kind. The company's research division said in a blog post that its Segment Anything Model, or SAM, could identify objects in images and videos even in cases where it had not encountered those items in its training. Using SAM, objects can be selected by clicking on them or writing text prompts. In one demonstration, writing the word "cat" prompted the tool to draw boxes around each of several cats in a photo. Meta has teased several features that deploy the type of generative AI popularized by ChatGPT, which creates brand-new content instead of simply identifying...
