Fuel Prices Increase, Diesel And Kerosene Subsidies Removed

Kenyans will start paying higher prices for the three petroleum products effective Monday, May 15, in the latest review by the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). In a statement on Sunday, EPRA's Director General Daniel Bargoria said that the increase is attributable to the average cost of imported refined petroleum products which has seen the landing cost of imports varying in prices. The landing cost of Super Petrol increased by 8.63% in March 2023, Diesel decreased by 2.51% while Kerosene also dropped to 1.13%. This will see Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by Kshs.3.40 per litre, Kshs.6.40 per litre and Kshs.15.19 per litre respectively, a review which will be in force upto June 14, 2023. A radio station in Nakuru County was reportedly robbed while presenters were live on air on Thursday night. The robbery at the Mwinjoyo FM studios, which was caught on camera in a now viral video, occurred as the presenters were going about their show normally. Midway through the video, a group of gun-wielding men in dark clothing and masks are seen storming the studio and ordering the presenters to switch off the transmission and lie on the floor. Newborn Baby Rescued From Pit Latrine In Kirinyaga County

A newborn baby has been rescued from a pit latrine in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County. Fire Brigade Officer John Kiama said they rushed to the scene after locals raised the alarm. "We rushed to Kagumo after residents made a distress call. Luckily, the baby was still alive," Kiama said. The fire brigade team rescued the baby from the latrine located at a rental house. "The exercise was successful as locals joined hands with the rescuers,"Mary Wambui, a resident, added. The baby was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for treatment. "We attended to the baby and are currently monitoring him. He is responding well to treatment,"a doctor at the facility said. Police have launched investigations into the incident.

President William Ruto has signed into law the Division of Revenue Bill, 2023, which the Senate passed last week.  Senators considered and passed the bill on April 20 without amendments in the form passed by the National Assembly. This allocated counties Ksh.385 billion in the 2023/24 financial year, which is Ksh.15 billion more than the Ksh. 370 billion that has been allocated in the current financial year (2022/2023). Gunmen raid city hospital, steal patients’ cash and phones

Gunmen raided a private hospital in the Ruai area, Nairobi and robbed patients of mobile phones and cash. Guards at the Ruai Family Hospital told police the gang of two riding on a motorbike struck on Monday, April 10, at 4 am and forced their way into the facility. The guards said the gang was armed with pistols when they arrived and demanded cash and electronics. To announce their arrival one of the gunmen fired one round on the floor forcing the staff and patients present to cave in and lie down. It was then that one of the gunmen proceeded to collect four mobile phones from the patients present and unknown amount of money.
