IEBC Clears Irungu Kang’ata To Vie For Murang’a Governor Seat

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has been cleared by the IEBC to run for the Murang'a Governor seat in the upcoming August General Election. Kang'ata was cleared along with his running mate Winnie Mwangi, who had earlier been barred from vying after IEBC determined that she had failed to resign within the legal deadlines.  According to reports, Ms Mwangi did not resign by February 9 in violation of the Elections Act, which requires public officers seeking elective seats to resign six months before an election. She was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for more than 25 years before being chosen as Kang'ata's running mate. Court Freezes Bank Account Of Gov’t Employee Earning Ksh.32K But Transacted Ksh.79 Million

The High Court has frozen the bank account of a public officer at the Ministry of Environment who is alleged to have fraudulently acquired public funds amounting to millions of shillings. According to preliminary investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Samuel Njoroge Kariuki's currently has Ksh.22 million, an amount that does not match his salary and therefore the funds in the account are believed to have been obtained through corruption. Documents filed in court indicate that Kariuki joined the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in January 2018, as a Finance Officer II in job group K earning a salary of Ksh.32,000. Mwai Kibaki’s body arrives in Parliament

The body of former President Mwai Kibaki on Monday arrived at Parliament buildings a few minutes before 7:30 am. This followed a Solemn Procession that began from Lee Funeral Home and took to  Valley Road and Kenyatta Avenue through to Parliament Road. A Military Guard of Honour was mounted along Parliament Road for the entry procession into Parliament The former Head of State will lie-in-state for the next three days. Kibaki died at the age of 90.

IEBC Announces 418,000 Temporary Jobs Ahead Of August Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a total of 418,192 short-term job opportunities ahead of the August 9 General Election. IEBC is looking to recruit deputy county returning officers (47), deputy constituency returning officers (290), presiding officers (52,481), deputy presiding officers (52,841), logistics officers (389) and support electoral trainers (5,827). The elections authority is also looking to enlist 580 ICT clerks, 302,860 polling clerks, 47 county based voter educators, 290 constituency based voter educators and 2,900 ward-based voter educators All interested parties should apply for the positions on IEBC’s online portal, where requirements for the slots will be available, before May 6, 2022.

MOH Reports over 900,000 Malaria vaccine Administered in Kenya

Since Kenya became the first country to pioneer a Malaria vaccine in 2019, over 750,000 doses have been given to children in lake-endemic counties. At least 275,000 children have received at least one of the four scheduled doses, according to Kenya's health ministry, while 45,000 have received the full dose. The GSK vaccine is part of Kenya's fight against the disease, which kills between 1 million and 1.3 million people worldwide each year. The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s National Elections Board (NEB) has postponed the party primaries in Bumula, Mt. Elgon, Turkana Central, Kakamega and Turkana East constituencies. Speaking while issuing a media update on the nomination exercise on Thursday, NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura stated that the Bumula, Turkana Central, and Turkana East elections will be held on Tuesday, April 19. Collins Kibet Toroitich  wants court to order the administrator of his grandfather's vast estate to pay the money as they await the outcome of an inheritance case. Mombasa politician Ali Mwatsau shot & Injured in Tudor

Police in Mombasa are investigating an incident in which an aspirant for a political seat in Mvita Constituency was shot and seriously injured in Tudor area. The politician’s car was sprayed with more than 15 bullets, injuring him. Police say they don’t know the motive of the attack on Ali Mwatsau who is a UDA politician. He was rushed to hospital in stable condition as the hunt for the gunmen continue. According to police, the shooting happened at about 10 pm on Tuesday and the gunmen were in two cars.
