Kamene Goro Set to leave Kiss FM after 3 years

Speaking to a local media house about the reports of her departure, Kamene said she did not understand why that would be news.  “I don’t have anything to say, but again how is my leaving news?” the media personality told NN.  “You people should know leaving is not an easy thing, and you should let people be,” she added. Ministry Of Health Closely Monitoring Cholera Outbreak in Garissa, Wajir, Tana River Counties

The Ministry of Health is keeping close surveillance on Garissa, Wajir and Tana River counties following the recent increase in cases of Cholera.  The three counties are among 14 counties that have been seriously affected by the disease since October last year when the first case was reported.  The cases in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu have gone down, but the ministry is warning Kenyans against laxity even as they try to stop the spread of this acute diarrhoeal disease. Electricity prices to rise by 15% in January 2023 as subsidy is dropped

Consumers will be hit by an electricity price shock in January 2023 as the subsidy which retired president Uhuru Kenyatta initiated is dropped. Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) director-general Daniel Kiptoo said the 15 per cent discount would not be extended beyond its expiry date of December 31, 2022. “When the new government came in, it withdrew the support (subsidy) in August, and thus after the end of December, we will revert to the rates that were in place before January,” President William Ruto has been against subsidies imposed by his predecessor on items like petrol and maize which were meant to ease the cost of living crisis and boost economic growth. Celebrated News Anchor Catherine Kasavuli Dead At 60

Veteran Kenyan media personality Catherine Kasavuli has died.  The news of her demise was confirmed by acting KBC Managing Director Samuel Maina.  Kasavuli who recently opened up about her battle with cervical cancer, succumbed to the illness in Nairobi on Thursday night. Ms Kasavuli was the first female TV news anchor in the country, and is credited with breaking the glass ceiling for female TV journalists in the country. During her illustrious career which boomed between the 1990s and 2015, Kasavuli graced Kenyan TV screens as an anchor in most of Kenya's leading television stations including Citizen TV, State broadcaster KBC and KTN. Kasavuli returned to KBC in 2020, where she hosted the Legend Edition.

Vioja Mahakamani ‘Prosecutor’ Gibson Gathu Is Dead

Gibson Gathu Mbugua, a veteran actor who was well-known for his role as a Prosecutor in the Vioja Mahakamani drama has died.  The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) on Tuesday confirmed that the 'prosecutor' is dead.  The veteran actor had been ailing from diabetes for more than 20 years, and in 2021, the family announced that his kidneys had failed.  The family appealed to Kenyans to contribute towards a kidney transplant procedure that Gathu was to undergo.  A major fundraiser was held in June 2022, where former President Uhuru Kenyatta contributed Ksh 2 million towards settling the hospital bill.  In August 2022 , Gathu updated his fans that the Kidney transplant was successful and he had since been discharged.  ...

Murder Charge Against Aisha Jumwa Formally Withdrawn

The murder charge against Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has been formally withdrawn.  The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) made an application at Mombasa High Court to have the murder charge withdrawn, and Jumwa to be a state witness.  In a letter by the ODPP, court was told that though the threshold test was met at the point of making the decision to charge, the evidentiary test on relation to the doctrine of common intention has not been met. "Therefore the charges against the second accused can therefore not be sustained in the circumstances," court was told.
