President Uhuru Kenyatta launches second naval base in Manda Bay

President Uhuru Kenyatta has opened a strategic naval base to secure Kenya’s territorial waters and protect the Lamu Port South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor (Lapsset) project. The Manda Bay Forward Operations Base (FOB), which played a key role in the capture of Kismayu by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in September 2012, was yesterday upgraded to a full naval base. The FOB was crucial in planning during Operation Linda Nchi, a cross-border offensive against the Al-Shabaab who had been making regular trips into Kenyan territory and causing chaos. While presenting the presidential and regimental colours, President Kenyatta said his government is determined to protect Kenya’s territory, explaining that the base will play a key role in achieving that. Kenya to manufacture Covid-19 vaccines starting next year

Kenya will next year start manufacturing Covid-19 vaccines locally in collaboration with unnamed pharmaceutical firms in a move aimed at easing supply hitches that have derailed mass inoculation. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe revealed in an internal vaccination blue print that the country has started the process of building a filling plant for the Covid-19 vaccines. A full-fledged vaccine manufacturing plant will be built by 2024, said Mr Kagwe. A fill and finish facility helps third parties put the vaccine from the main manufacturers into vials or syringes, sealing them and packaging them up for distribution. “We aim to start local production during the first quarter of 2022 and have a fully-fledged human vaccine manufacturing capability by 2024.” Mr Kagwe said lo...

Responding to questions regarding his 2007 and 2017 support for ODM leader Raila Odinga and whether he feels the former Prime Minister should reciprocate by supporting his 2022 bid, Mudavadi said he is seeking the support of all Kenyans and not from a specific person. “I don’t believe in the idea of ‘political debts’.
