Key highlights of 2022/23 Budget

The budget is Sh3.31 trillion. This is 4.8 per cent more compared to the Sh2.9 trillion budget for the 2020/21 fiscal year. The Budget comes two months earlier than the usual June date. This is to allow sufficient preparation for the August 9 general elections. The budget will be the last under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime. It will cover expenditure for the period between July 1, 2022, to June 31, 2023. The national government will take the biggest chunk of the monies- Sh2.07 trillion. The majority of national government expenditure will go to the Executive – Sh2.01 trillion. Parliament will take Sh38.4 billion. Judiciary will get Sh18.8 billion. Uganda's government must stop using illegal detention centres as a weapon against dissidents and close the facilities, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Tuesday in a report documenting the prevalence of torture at the clandestine sites. The report featured interviews with 51 people, including 34 former detainees and eyewitnesses to abductions, who described a litany of abuses at the hands of police, army officials and Uganda's domestic intelligence agency, the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), between April 2019 and November 2021. Plane Carrying 133 Crashes In China, Casualties Unknown

A China Eastern passenger jet carrying 133 people has crashed in southwest China with an unknown number of casualties, state broadcaster CCTV reported Monday. The Boeing 737 plane crashed in the rural countryside near Wuzhou city, Guangxi region and "caused a mountain fire", CCTV said, adding that rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Azimio La Umoja Team Continue with its Nairobi County tour.

The Azimio la Umoja team, which is however lacking its pointman Raila Odinga who is concluding his UK visit, will on Saturday continue with its Nairobi County tour. They will start their campaign trail in Embakasi West where they will pitch camp at Kariobangi South civil servant before proceeding to the Umoja stage. They will afterwards cross over to Embakasi South for meet-the-people tours in PCEA Church Pipeline, Kimondo, Vision, and Kwa Reuben. The team will finalize the day’s tour in Makadara at the Rally Makongeni Grounds.

The Media Owners Association, the Media Council of Kenya and the Kenya Editors Guild,in consultation with Political Parties have launched the Kenya Presidential Debates 2022, ahead of the August polls. The three entities agreed on a joint inclusive approach to the process during a press briefing on Wednesday, March 02, 2022, and appointed Clifford Machoka, currently Head of External Affairs & Marketing, Nation Media Groups, as the Head of the Presidential Debates Secretariat. Machoka will lead a multi-institutional team to engage political party partners and stakeholders in the electoral process, as well as organize the 2022 Presidential and Deputy Presidential Debates. Form Two student dies after jumping off classroom building

A Form Two student at Ndarawetta girls’ secondary school in Bomet central died by suicide after jumping off the rooftop of their classroom Thursday morning. The lifeless body of the 20-year-old was discovered by students who were attending their usual morning preps. They immediately alerted the administration. Bomet central sub-County police Commander Musa Imamai said they received the report about the incident prompting his investigating officers to visit the institution.
