Mum and three children burnt to death in Kwale

Four family members were on Friday night burnt to death after their house was razed by a fire at Taru in Kinango subcounty. The fire claimed the lives of a mother and her three children. Kwale police confirmed the incident. According to the report released by police on Saturday, the four family members were identified as Samia Kikoi, 32, Husnein Hussein, 10, Mulhat Hussein, 6, and Ilham Hussein, 1. Police who rushed to the scene could not immediately establish the cause of the fire. However, locals believe a candle might have caused the fire. The father had gone to watch a football match. “The family might have left the candle burning causing havoc,” said Ali Ruwa, a local. NHIF to cut benefits in cost saving plan

Renal dialysis, major surgeries and diagnostics tests such as MRI and CT-scans top the list of benefits that the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) aims to cut in a drive to reduce payouts. The State-backed insurer’s cost-cutting drive will reduce payouts to hospitals by at least Sh2.9 billion in the year to June 2022, forcing thousands of beneficiaries to top-up for their medical bills. The maximum cover for MRI scan will be reduced to Sh9,600 from the current Sh15,000 per session while settlement of CT-scans is set to be capped at Sh6,000 from Sh8,000. The average payout for renal dialysis will fall to Sh6,000 from the current Sh9,500 if the proposals are approved, hurting Kidney patients as the NHIF seeks to reduce bills for the weekly procedure by Sh1 billion annuall...

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday ordered the reopening of worship centres, but with strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols to avoid further spread of the coronavirus. “Places of worship can now open under strict guidelines like, limiting the number to 200 people and adhering to all other Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs )in place,” he said. Sigalame High School in Funyula, Busia County, has been closed indefinitely after a fire razed one of the dormitories on Monday night.
