Senegal beats Egypt, wins African Cup of Nations in penalty

Sadio Mane netted the winning spot-kick as Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties to clinch their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations after a 0-0 draw. The Liverpool forward had seen a seventh-minute penalty saved by Egypt keeper Gabaski but Mane held his nerve when he returned in the shootout. Chelsea's Edouard Mendy denied Mohanad Lasheen to give Mane the chance to win it in Yaounde's Olembe Stadium. Gabaski had made three good saves from Senegal's Bamba Dieng in extra time. All four of Egypt's knockout games at the tournament went the distance, and the North Africans had beaten Ivory Coast and host Cameroon on spot-kicks en route to the final. Gabaski had already saved four penalties at the tournament by the time the match went to a shootout, but on this occasion, the 33-y...

Joho’s wife files for divorce at Kadhi’s Court

Mombasa’s Governor Hassan Joho's paradise after his wife of 10 years filed for divorce. Madina Giovanni Fazzini said her marriage to Joho was beyond reconciliation as it had broken down irretrievably with no chance of revival. Fazzini said each party had moved on with their separate lives and therefore there was need for official divorce. “There is no hope or possibility of reconciliation or compromise of whatsoever nature between me and the governor,” reads part of the suit. Fazzini, who is reportedly an Italian, filed a suit at the Kadhi’s court in Mombasa on January 26 through Aziz M Ngare law firm. The National Treasury is spending Sh38 billion to bailout Kenya Airways, Kenya Power and universities.

The National Treasury is spending Sh38 billion to bailout Kenya Airways, Kenya Power and universities. Treasury is seeking the approval of the National Assembly for an extra Sh126 billion spent in this year’s budget. KQ has been allocated a chunk of the additional amount at Sh26 billion followed by expenditures on fuel subsidy that took up Sh24 billion. Allocation to Kenya Airways constituted the highest of the Treasury’s extra spending, most of which was drawn from a reduction in marine transport projects at Sh15 billion. “The reduction is on account of rationalisation of slow-moving projects,” Yatani said, adding that KQ allocation is to help cater to the airline’s expenditures. Universities are also set for a cash boost with the allocation of Sh8.5 billion more to ca...

Kanye West seen Happy Chatting with Women in Malibu

Kanye West has lots of drama with Kim Kardashian at the moment ... but he looks like a man without a care in the world, at least while he's surrounded by hot chicks at the beach. Ye was all laughs and smiles as he chatted up some sexy women Sunday, soaking up golden hour on an oceanfront balcony at Soho's Little Beach House Malibu. Kanye looks happy as a clam here ... just check out the gallery and the videos ... and it's worth noting the ladies he's talking to are NOT girlfriend Julia Fox, but they are strikingly similar. Guess Ye's got a type. There are lots of reasons for Kanye to be stressing about Kim ... the kids, the divorce, Pete Davidson -- but those all seem, at least temporarily, forgotten in the right seaside setting ... with the right company. Outside the rest...

China quietly locks down area near Beijing with Olympics a week away

Chinese authorities locked down an area neighbouring the capital city of Beijing this week following a handful of reported Covid cases, but made no public announcements about the fresh restrictions with just a week until the Winter Olympics. Around 1.2 million people in Xiong'an New Area -- a new economic zone 100 kilometres southwest of Beijing -- are no longer allowed to enter or leave their residential compounds, local virus prevention staff confirmed to AFP on Friday January 28. While recent lockdowns in China are publicly announced and widely reported by state media, the Xiong'an restrictions appear to have been introduced by stealth with no public announcements -- sparking confusion among some residents of the area. "We expect this (lockdown) to last around a week, but ...
