Odinga, speaking in a virtual rally on Friday, castigated the country’s judicial system for prioritizing the arrest of petty offenders instead of going after high-profile persons facing more serious crimes such as graft charges. The ODM party leader was referring to the case of one Alvin Linus Chivondo, a man who was sentenced to a year in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing cooking oil at a local supermarket on Monday.

Gov’t To Pay A Further Ksh.14 Billion To Oil Marketers

The government is expected to pay a further Ksh.14 billion to oil marketing companies (OMCs) to cover arrears from the fuel subsidy. Already, the Ministry says it has paid Ksh.34.2 billion of the arrears owed to the fuel retailers over the course of the fuel shortage crisis in the country. "We are in receipt of the full outstanding balance that is payable to the OMCs. As of yesterday (Wednesday) we had dispatched upwards of Ksh.34.6 billion since the program started last year and will continue with these disbursements once done with the administrative procedures," stated Acting Petroleum and Mining Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma. A police officer attached to the elite presidential escort unit died by suicide in a bizarre incident in his house in Juja, Kiambu County. Constable Samuel Ngatia who was attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s security team died after shooting himself in the head on Monday morning. 26 dead in latest Nigeria gang raid

Gunmen have attacked villages in Nigeria's central Plateau state killing at least 26 people, with more feared dead. The attackers on motorbikes stormed at least four remote villages on Sunday in Kanam area in the state, shooting people dead. Most of the victims were children. The gunmen also stole cattle and burnt down homes. Residents say at least 20 bodies have been found in the village of Gyambau while at least six have been recovered in the village of Kyaram. More killings were reported in the villages of Dungur and Kukawa. A number of people are still missing and hundreds have been displaced. The authorities say more security forces are being deployed to the area.
