The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) has announced they will stage a peaceful protest in Nairobi on Thursday. KMPDU Secretary-General Davji Atellah in a letter to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander said the procession will be over the delayed posting of medical interns and the payment of fees for postgraduate students. “We write to inform you of our intention to conduct a peaceful procession concerning the delayed posting of medical interns and the payment of fees for postgraduate students. Man Shoots Himself Outside Emergency Wing Of Hospital In Nairobi

A 72-year-old man died instantly after shooting himself outside the emergency section of a hospital in Nairobi's South B area.  Abdalla Mohamed is said to have shot himself in the chin while in the back seat of a taxi he had hired to drive him to the hospital.  Mohamed, who is a licensed gun holder, is said to have removed his Berreta Pistol from the safe and went to see his lawyer.  After the meeting with the lawyer, he requested a taxi from one of his long-term drivers. Thousands stuck on cruise ship in Mauritius over cholera fears

Mauritius has denied a Norwegian cruise ship permission to dock at the capital Port Louis over fears of a potential cholera outbreak on board. At least 15 people on the Norwegian Dawn have been in isolation over suspected illness. Mauritian authorities said the decision to block the ship was "taken in order to avoid any health risks". Samples were taken for testing on Sunday, with results expected to be known on Tuesday. The passengers developed mild symptoms of a stomach illness during a trip to South Africa, a representative of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said. Kenyans To Begin Contributing To SHIF In July 2024

Kenyans will begin contributing to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) in July 2024.   Terry Rotich, the acting corporation secretary at the Social Health Authority (SHA) on Monday said payment of contributions and access to healthcare under the scheme will commence on July 1 and not March, as announced earlier. Ms Rotich announced that every Kenyan will be required to apply to the authority for registration as a SHIF member by June 30. SHIF is meant to phase out the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and will scrap the current maximum of Ksh.1,700 contribution, exposing employed Kenyans to higher deductions. Journalist Jacque Maribe has been acquitted in the Monica Kimani murder case. Maribe was acquitted by Justice Grace Nzioka of the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, over lack of evidence. The government has announced scholarship opportunities for students poor students who wish to pursue a certificate course in Community Health Nursing. The scholarships are being offered by the Kenya Medical Training College in collaboration with Beyond Zero.
