Matiang’i declares Tuesday public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has declared Tuesday as a public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr. In a gazette notice on Tuesday, Matiang'i declared May 3rd a public holiday in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act. The festival of Idd-ul-Fitr, the Festival of Fast-breaking, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.  Muslims gather in mosques or open spaces and offer two units of prayer – called "Rakat". The prayers are followed by a sermon, in which the imam asks for forgiveness, mercy, and peace for every being across the world.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has clarified details on the requirements exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna needs to meet to return to the country. According to Matiang'i, citing the rule of law, Miguna will be required to fill out a one-page document for citizenship re-registration, which will allow him to return to the country. "You have to fill a piece of paper so that you regain your Kenyan passport or citizenship. Alarm as 7,000 snub university places despite qualifying

Over seven thousand 2020 KCSE students who qualified for the university under government sponsorship failed to take part in the revision exercise subsequently missing out on enrollment. In the 2020 KCSE examination, some 142,540 candidates obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service data indicates that 128,073 students were placed to degree courses while 6,617 opted for diploma courses in technical colleges. “7850 with C+ (Plus) and above failed to apply,” Education CS George Magoha said. Matiang’i bodyguard kills his wife and himself.

A bodyguard attached to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s killed his wife,who was a traffic officer and himself in their home. Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said preliminary investigations showed the General Service Unit (GSU) officer, Hudson Wakise, shot and killed his wife, Pauline Wakasa, before turning the gun on himself. Officers who visited the scene found the bodies in the sitting room. Mutyambai who mourned the incident said the couple may have had a domestic quarrel before the shooting incident. Wakise, who had been off duty since April 1, reported back to work on April 6 but left at 3 pm and went home outside the GSU camp in Ruaraka where the incident happened.
