Ministry Of Health Closely Monitoring Cholera Outbreak in Garissa, Wajir, Tana River Counties

The Ministry of Health is keeping close surveillance on Garissa, Wajir and Tana River counties following the recent increase in cases of Cholera.  The three counties are among 14 counties that have been seriously affected by the disease since October last year when the first case was reported.  The cases in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu have gone down, but the ministry is warning Kenyans against laxity even as they try to stop the spread of this acute diarrhoeal disease. Police in Mandera South are searching for two men who were abducted suspected Al-Shabaab militants who attacked their construction site on the Elwak-Falama road on Monday morning. Mandera South Deputy County Commissioner Nyamboga Mounda said a search was underway for Mr Ali Mohamed, a truck driver, and his turn boy, Mr Kerow Adan Abdi. “There was an incident where a tipper belonging to a local contractor working on a road was set ablaze and the driver and his turn boy are missing,” Mr Mounda said by phone. Five police officers injured in Mandera.

At least five police officers were on Friday injured when they were ambushed by al Shabaab militants in Banisa, Mandera county. Witnesses said the attackers had set an Improvised Explosive Devise on the road which hit a speeding police vehicle. This caused the vehicle to be badly damaged and burnt. The vehicle was carrying at least 15 police officers moving from Banisa towards Mandera. This prompted a major police operation in the area with authorities saying they were pursuing the attackers who escaped towards the nearby Kenya-Somalia border.
