LSK to sue KRA for contempt of court on housing levy

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has said it will initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Kenya Revenue of Authority commissioner general over alleged illegal deduction of housing levy. Addressing the press Monday, LSK president-elect Faith Odhiambo said there was no legal basis for the taxman including other state agencies to deduct the funds from employees. It has also called on Kenyans who may have fallen victims to volunteer the information to the LSK. LSK wants Safaricom compelled to delete subscribers photos

Lobby group has asked the court to compel Safaricom to delete all the subscribers’ photos taken during the current Sim card registration. Katiba Institute and LSK have moved to court challenging the decision by Safaricom to obtain photos or biometric data as a requirement for Sim registration. They termed the move illegal. Eric Theuri is the new president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after emerging victorious in the Thursday elections. Nelson Havi Released on KSh 10k Police Bail, To Be Arraigned on Wednesday

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi had a reprieve on Tuesday evening after obtaining police bail securing his release hours after arrest. The lawyer had earlier been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives over claims that he assaulted suspended LSK chief executive officer Mercy Wambua. According to reports, the vocal lawyer was nabbed at his office in Nairobi and taken to the DCI offices for interrogation. The society's vice-president Carolyne Kamende confirmed the arrest, according to a report by Shahidi News. "He was at his office when he was arrested," Kamende said. Following the pre-charge bail, Havi will be presented to court on Wednesday, July 14.
