A day set for celebration turned tragic after four men, mistaken to be cattle thieves, were brutally murdered last Sunday in Kitengela. The two brothers and their two cousins had gone to visit a relative in Kitengela for a housewarming party and to celebrate the birthday of one of them. Businessman shoots wife dead and commits suicide in Kiambu town

A couple was found dead in their house in Kiambu Town after an apparent murder and suicide. The body of 42-year-old businessman in spare parts Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga was found alongside that of his wife Philomena Njeri, 30 hours after the incident had happened. The motive of the incident is yet to be known. Friends who had seen Gachunga hours earlier said he looked jovial. Gachunga was a licensed gun holder and operated his spare parts shop in Industrial Area, Nairobi. His wife worked at the shop. He is said to have shot his wife three times on Tuesday evening before turning the gun to himself. The lifeless bodies of the two were found inside their bedroom which had been locked from inside. KCPE, KCSE candidates listing Extended by two weeks

The Government has extended the registration of KCPE, KCSE candidates by two weeks. "This is to give an opportunity to schools to ensure all candidates are registered, in the spirit of leaving no child behind in the education sector," Magoha said in a statement on Monday. The final registration deadline is August 14, 2021. The registration exercise was scheduled to close on July 31, 2021.  Magoha said headteachers and principals should ensure that all bona fide candidates are registered for the examination within the final two weeks. "Any candidate who fails to register for the 2021 examination to be sat in March 2022 will only be allowed to sit the examination in December 2022," he said. CS Amina Mohamed’s husband dies in Nairobi.

The husband of Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed is dead. The family said Khalid Ahmed died Thursday morning in Karen Hospital, Nairobi after a short illness. A family spokesman said the incident happened at about 5 am. Khalid, a father of two, was largely off public life while committed to his family and business. Senior government officials rushed to her Nairobi home after the news of the death was made amid plans to bury him. The family said the CS is more affected given she had in March 2021 lost her brother Esmael Mohammed Jibril, a prominent city businessman, while receiving treatment in India.

Demand for ICU beds rises amid surge in virus cases

Kenya is experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Ministry of Health has warned. With this, there is increased demand for ICU beds in hospitals to accommodate the high number of infections. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has asked county governments to ensure availability of sufficient oxygen. Kagwe reiterated that the oxygen should be properly piped in the various health facilities. He spoke on Wednesday during a press conference at Afya House on Covid-19 update. "We can already see an increase of demand of ICU beds as well as oxygen requirement,"Kagwe said. Aviation company 748 Air Services has been granted stay orders by a Nairobi court, preventing Kenya Airways and its agents from further executing eviction orders.
