Five suspects were Tuesday arrested in a police operation after defrauding a Korean national Sh2.9 million, on the pretext that they would sell him gold. The five were arrested following a complaint by one Song Sung, who had initially been shown some well parked bars that he was made to believe were made of gold. The victim had earlier been directed to a company known as Ekweme enterprises in Karen suburbs, where he was shown the supposed gold. He told police he was led to the establishment by proxies believed to have been working in cahoots with the fraudsters, who immediately went into hiding after receiving the money. A man was Monday arrested after he allegedly killed his wife and four children in a village in Kirinyaga County in a bizarre incident. The man identified as Paul Murage Njuki, 35, is said to have also defiled one of his deceased daughters before killing her. The man who is believed to have murdered the BBC journalist in a hotel room in Nairobi before dying in a fall was her fixer. Officials aware of the probe say Henry Timati Mauti, the Kenyan man who is suspected to be the killer of Kate Mitchell, was known to her and was helping her move around. The man, a graduate of USIU, had studied radiography. The motive of the incident is yet to be established. Mitchell, a British national who worked for BBC Media Action in a number of African countries, died on Friday, November 19. A father and son duo were among three killed in a road crash involving two motorbikes that collided head on in the Kombani area on the Mombasa-Lunga Lunga road.  According to reports, the two bikes collided and burst into flames with the father and son duo sustaining serious burns in the wee hours of Thursday.  Reports say the man was on the motorbike with his son and his wife during the accident that also killed a businessman who was on the second bike.  According to police officers, the woman who lost her husband and her son in the accident and the rider of the second bike are receiving medical care at the Mswambweni County Referral Hospital.  The bodies of the deceased were removed to the Mswambweni County Referral Hospital mortuary.

A 45-year-old primary school teacher who defiled a 13-year-old pupil in 2016 was on Wednesday sentenced to serve 20 years in jail. Fredrick Mwangi was sentenced by Milimani senior principal magistrate David Ndungi after the court found him guilty of the offence. The magistrate said the prosecution had proved its case against him. While passing the sentencing, the magistrate jailed the teacher with the sentence saying it is the minimum sentence for such an offence as provided by the law. Details have emerged showing how the Sh180 million stolen from the Youth Enterprise Development Fund was shared out. An anti-corruption court on Thursday fined businessman Mukuria Ngamau Sh700 million for defrauding the Fund of the money. Chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti held that the director of Quorandum Limited irregularly acquired the money. Ngamau will spend 27 years in jail if he defaults in paying the fine, having been found guilty of five counts of looting seven years ago. At least 30 people were killed in a weekend attack in the restive northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, local and UN sources said on Monday. The jihadists of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) are suspected to have carried out the attack in the Ituri area on Saturday, they said. Alarm as 7,000 snub university places despite qualifying

Over seven thousand 2020 KCSE students who qualified for the university under government sponsorship failed to take part in the revision exercise subsequently missing out on enrollment. In the 2020 KCSE examination, some 142,540 candidates obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service data indicates that 128,073 students were placed to degree courses while 6,617 opted for diploma courses in technical colleges. “7850 with C+ (Plus) and above failed to apply,” Education CS George Magoha said.
