Former President Uhuru demands peace talks on The Eastern DRC crisis

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for peace talks between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) . Through his Spokesperson Kanze Dena, Kenyatta, as the facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Process, noted there is an urgent need for renewed peace talks between the warring States. The EAC-led Nairobi Process is a regional peace initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He also noted that an earlier ceasefire negotiated was dishonoured, slowing down peace and diplomatic negotiations agreed in the peace process. Faith Odhiambo elected new LSK president

Faith Odhiambo  has been elected the new Law Society of Kenya  president Odhiambo who served as Vice President of the society ahead of the polls was elected in Thursday's elections. She becomes the 51st President of the Council, succeeding Eric Theuri. Theuri’s term will expire on March 25, 2024. The position was, however, declared vacant on December 5, 2023, as per the LSK General Regulations, 2020. The regulations require that the position is declared vacant at least three months before the 15th day of March of the year the elections are to be held. The race for the presidency was between five candidates: Peter Wanyama, Carolyne Kamende, Faith Odhiambo, Harriet Mboche and Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich. New twist as State cancels licenses for 9 private security firms

Nine major security companies have had their operating licenses cancelled over allegations of violating various regulations. The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) gazetted the names of the companies highlighting their failures in a notice. This is likely to affect their operations at large given they have employed thousands of people and are in business. Students of Kakamega High rushed to hospital following stampede

A stampede at the Kakamega High School has led to 13 students being rushed to the Kakamega County General Hospital for treatment. The students are said to have fallen from the first floor of a building block while rushing out of their classroom. The students were running in haste after a fight broke out in the class. It is alleged that two students had been involved in an altercation when one student pushed the other while throwing punches at each other. Soon after, one student fell to the ground when a steel guard rail on the staircase snapped. Panicked onlookers soon rushed out of their classes which later resulted in a stampede.
