Court Nullifies Lagdera MP Abdikadir Mohamed’s Election Win

The High Court has invalidated the August 2022 election victory of Lagdera MP Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed. Mohamed, who contested for the position under an ODM party ticket, is now the first MP to lose his seat following the said polls. He was declared the winner after garnering 5,939 votes in the August elections ahead of his closest rival Abdiqani Zeitun who managed 4,863 votes.

Five Arrested With Weapons At Homa Bay Tallying Centre

Police in Homa Bay on Wednesday night arrested five suspects who were planning to disrupt the ongoing tallying process in Homa Bay town and Kabondo Kasipul constituencies. The police also recovered weapons and a teargas canister. In Homa Bay town, the security officers arrested four men who were armed with knives, clubs and a teargas canister near Tom Mboya University which is the county tallying centre. Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskey said the suspects were walking  500 metres from the gate of the county tallying centre when police intercepted and arrested them in possession of the weapons before they were  taken to Homa Bay police station. NCIC Names 15-Member Panel For Peace Ahead Of The Elections

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has appointed 15 members to the Kenya Eminent Panel for Peace. Ambassador Francis Muthaura will lead the panel as the convener, with Justice (Rtd) Joyce Aluoch appointed as the co-convener.  Archbishop Anthony Muheria, Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit and Archbishop Phillip Anyolo are the committee's faith leaders. Peace and reconciliation expert Bishop Emeritus Stephen Kewasis will also provide his services to the panel, with NCIC Chairman Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia set to serve as an Ex-Officio member. Others are: Lt Gen (Rtd) Daniel Opande and Lt Gen (Rtd) Lazarus Sumbeiywo who will serve as mediation experts; with Nerima Wako and Sheikh Hamad Kassim named youth leader and faith leader respectively.
