Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to arrive in Nairobi for the sixth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA6). In a statement on Wednesday, the Head of State at the summit will highlight Somalia's unique environmental challenges. Kenyans To Begin Contributing To SHIF In July 2024

Kenyans will begin contributing to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) in July 2024.   Terry Rotich, the acting corporation secretary at the Social Health Authority (SHA) on Monday said payment of contributions and access to healthcare under the scheme will commence on July 1 and not March, as announced earlier. Ms Rotich announced that every Kenyan will be required to apply to the authority for registration as a SHIF member by June 30. SHIF is meant to phase out the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and will scrap the current maximum of Ksh.1,700 contribution, exposing employed Kenyans to higher deductions. Kenya Receives Additional Ksh.15.5 Billion Financing From IMF

Kenya has unlocked Ksh.15.5 billion ($127.4 million) in additional financing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This follows successful discussions to amend the country’s ongoing program with the multi-lateral lender to provide additional financing. The announcement was made by Agriculture CS Peter Munya who said that the directive would help bring down the cost of maize flour  “The government is looking into ways and means of addressing the cost of unga to bring it down so that consumers can afford it,” CS Munya said after inspecting the importation of maize from Tanzania at the Namanga Border Post. Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has been cleared by the IEBC to run for the Murang'a Governor seat in the upcoming August General Election. Kang'ata was cleared along with his running mate Winnie Mwangi, who had earlier been barred from vying after IEBC determined that she had failed to resign within the legal deadlines.  According to reports, Ms Mwangi did not resign by February 9 in violation of the Elections Act, which requires public officers seeking elective seats to resign six months before an election.
