Usain Bolt loses $12 million of life savings in scam

Linton P Gordon, a lawyer for Bolt, has claimed that the Jamaican’s account once had $12.8 million (£10m), but now reflects a balance of only $12,000 (£9,700), money that was supposed to fund his retirement. Gordon sent a letter to Stocks & Securities Limited on Monday (January 16) and later a copy to the Associated Press which states that if the money is not returned within 10 days, the company will face civil and criminal action. In the letter, Gordon said: “If [the new balance] is correct, and we are hoping it is not, then a serious act of fraud, larceny or a combination of both have been committed against our client.” Stocks & Securities Limited have asked that clients pass all questions on to Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission as it continues its investigati...

Baby, Teen Mother Among Six Killed In California Shooting

A six-month-old baby and its teen mother were among six people killed early Monday when gunmen opened fire at a home in California, police officials said. Sheriff Mike Boudreaux of the Tulare County Sheriff's Office described to reporters a grisly crime, a "targeted" attack that he said may be linked to gang and drug violence. Police said they believed two people attacked the home around 3:30 a.m. Monday, firing multiple shots. A neighbor called the police, who arrived seven minutes later to find dead and dying people both inside and outside the home. "This whole situation is tragic, but we have a 17-year-old mother and (her) six-month-old child both of which were shot in the head," Boudreaux said. Two people survived the assault by hiding inside the building, while sev...

Rayvanny’s beef with Harmonize escalates

Tanzanian singer Rayvanny has fired back at Harmonize in what seems to be a reignited online beef. The bitter online exchange began when Harmonize told artists to go slow on releasing alcohol-themed songs, which Rayvanny said was a subject Harmoniez to comment on as he had no hit song on alcohol. Later, Harmonize responded by saying Rayvanny was stuck to Wasafi despite leaving the label months ago. An angry Rayvanny hit back, saying Harmonize was not his match, pointing out that he even wrote verses for him in a song they did together. Rayvanny further said Harmonize was boastful about the sum he paid to exit his former label, an amount Rayvanny said was a drop in the ocean compared to what he paid. “You paid Wasafi Tsh600 million umelia kwenye media zote mzee … Incase ...

ICT,CS Owalo Says First Locally-Made Mobile Phone To Be Ready By August

Information Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo says Kenya is on its track to manufacturing mobile phones under the ambitious multi-million-shilling Konza Techno-polis plan in Malili, Machakos County. As the fate of Konza, which was touted as Africa’s Silicon Savanah ahead of its launch in January 2013, remains unclear ten years later, the CS says the infrastructure is already in place and that local telecoms will be among the first firms to set camp this year.  “The telecoms have realised that in the near future, Kenya must become a manufacturer of phones and cheap technology as opposed to a chief importer, so we are going to start manufacturing, the technology is already there and we are going to roll out this initiative by July,” Owalo said on Tuesday. Speaking to Citi...
