13 Elephants To Be Flown Into Kenya From The UK

Kenya is set to receive a troop of 13 elephants from the United Kingdom to be released into the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary in Kwale County. The elephants which were raised at the Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent, UK, will be transferred in a joint project by UK-based nonprofit Aspinall Foundation, the Kenya Wildlife Services and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. According to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the project involves returning captive elephants in Europe across the 7,000-kilometer journey to Africa for rewilding The authority says that the herd has been living as a family in the UK and needs to be rewilded together to maintain the family bonds of the animals’ social structures. A Poacher arrested with elephant tusk in Tsavo West National Park.

Kenya Wildlife Service has arrested a suspected poacher in possession of an elephant tusk at Elerai area in Tsavo West National Park. The tusk is suspected to be one of the two extracted from an elephant which was killed at Losoito in Tsavo West National Park, close to a month ago. Acting on reliable Intelligence, KWS officers backed by multi-agency personnel, and cross border teams - including officials from Tanzania – mounted intense investigation into the matter. These efforts culminated in the arrest of one Kenyan , Papayo Ole Kesoi, who had in his possession a single elephant tusk.
