Over 60 Students From Eregi Girls’ School Hospitalised Over Unknown Illness

More than 60 students from Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega County have been admitted to various hospitals following an outbreak of an unknown illness. 30 students were admitted to the Kakamega Level Five Hospital, 20 to Shibwe Hospital and 10 to Iguhu Hospital.  The students have shown similar symptoms, where they are having trouble walking.  Reports indicate that more students are being rushed to various health facilities in the county.  Sources indicated that initial laboratory tests had revealed that the students had elevated electrolytes, an indication that their bodies had lost fluids. Medical personnel from KEMRI are expected to visit the School on Tuesday to assess the situation.

DPP Nurdin Haji Calls On Garissa Youth To Take Up Teaching Profession

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has urged form four leavers in Garissa to take up the teaching profession in order to bridge the huge gap of teacher shortage in the county. Haji said as long as the local community shies away from the profession, the region will continue to lag behind in education due to teacher shortage. Speaking in Garissa during the launch of Young Muslim Girls High School, the DPP urged parents to encourage their children to take up teaching as a career saying the region’s progress was suffering due to lack of adequate teachers. Over 30,000 KCPE candidates to join National schools

Some 38,797 KCPE candidates have been selected to join national schools on May 3, 2022. Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha says 214,960 others have been placed in extra county schools while 258,456 will be enrolled in county schools. Another 726,311 students will be enrolled in subcounty schools while 2,045 have been placed in special needs schools. Magoha said more than 800 students from informal settlements are among those selected to join national and extra county schools. He said their selection was based on affirmative action and was purely on merit.  Overall, a total of 1,214,031 candidates sat the 2021 KCPE exam. Education CS George Magoha on Monday, June 7, instructed headteachers to use any means necessary to ensure school fees is paid, including sending children with fee balances home. CS Magoha says School calendar will not change.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has said the school calendar will not be changed. He said that the timetable remains as it had been decided earlier in the year and learners will return to school as planned.  Magoha spoke on Monday in Kiambu town while inspecting the opening of the exams. Defiant school boys arrested for sneaking into girls dormitory.

The police are holding 10 students who sneaked from their school to a girls dormitory in Nakuru on Thursday night. The KCSE candidates from Anestar Bahati Boys sneaked into Anestar Precious Girls secondary school. DCI director George Kinoti said the boys sneaked from their school in numbers and gained access to the girls when they were asleep. After a few minutes, the girls raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the 10. Kinoti said an officer had to fire in the air to scare away the defiant boys. They are at Dundori Patrol Base, pending further interrogation.

School principal arrested for leaking KCSE Examination.

A Machakos County Principal has been arrested for allegedly leaking the KCSE Mathematics Paper 2. Machakos DCIO Rhoda Kanyi,took the detectives to ABC Kiseveni Secondary School where they arrested the school head identified as Betta Mutuku. According to the DCIO, the principal uploaded the paper on her WhatsApp status on Monday evening. She is currently in police custody at Machakos Police Station pending further investigations.

KCPE examination results will be out in the next two weeks,This was said by  Education CS George Magoha. Magoha announced this on Monday in Kisumu saying they are on the right track with only the marking of Kiswahili Insha and English Composition currently ongoing. The CS said the invigilator in Kitui who sent away a pupil during the composition examination will be dealt with and will face the law. He however said the pupil will be graded minus the composition exam. Magoha told school heads and education officers to be extra careful because a few of them were 'playing' with the examination papers after taking them from the containers.
