The Kenyan shilling weakened to a new low against the dollar , according to LSEG data. At 1015 GMT, the shilling was trading at 149.35/55 per U.S. dollar, compared with Friday's closing rate of 149.20/40, the data showed. The shilling, which has lost 17.4% of its value against the dollar since the start of the year, touched an all-time low of 149.40/60 earlier in the session. Typically, demand for dollars comes from the energy and manufacturing sectors.

Machakos senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama has called on President William Ruto to stop revoking title deeds of land that has not been developed for over ten years. The senator said on Monday that nobody has a right to take someone's land whatsoever and the law doesn't allow that in Kenya. The government spent a total of Sh147 million to facilitate team Kenya’s participation in the world athletics championship in Budapest, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has said. Meta (META.O) is planning to lay off employees on Wednesday in the unit of its metaverse-oriented Reality Labs division focused on creating custom silicon, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday. Employees were informed of the layoffs in a post on Meta's internal discussion forum Workplace on Tuesday. Kenya Hit By Record 860 Million Cyber-Attacks In 2023

Kenya has recorded 860 million cyber-attacks this year, the highest yet, according to the Communications Authority (CA). CA says Kenya has witnessed an upsurge in “the frequency, sophistication and scale” of cyber-threats targeted at the country’s critical information infrastructure (CIIs) in 2023. “In the last 12 months alone, the attacks have skyrocketed to a new high of 860 million cyber-attacks. Of these attacks, 79% were a result of cyber criminals exploiting flaws and vulnerabilities in organizations' internal controls, system procedures and information systems, which they used to gain unauthorized access to the computer systems,” the authority says in a new statement. Over Ksh.9 Million Worth Of Methamphetamine Drug Seized At JKIA

Detectives have seized Ksh.9 million worth of methamphetamine drug at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The drugs, weighing more than one kilogram, were concealed inside bicycle saddles. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the consignment was bound for Jakarta, Indonesia. “The drug estimated at over Ksh.9 million was stashed among other items declared as bicycle accessories in a consignment being shipped from Moroni, Comoros,” the DCI said. Detectives deployed at the airport to handle immigration crime and suspicious cargo flagged the consignment. Over 60 Students From Eregi Girls’ School Hospitalised Over Unknown Illness

More than 60 students from Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega County have been admitted to various hospitals following an outbreak of an unknown illness. 30 students were admitted to the Kakamega Level Five Hospital, 20 to Shibwe Hospital and 10 to Iguhu Hospital.  The students have shown similar symptoms, where they are having trouble walking.  Reports indicate that more students are being rushed to various health facilities in the county.  Sources indicated that initial laboratory tests had revealed that the students had elevated electrolytes, an indication that their bodies had lost fluids. Medical personnel from KEMRI are expected to visit the School on Tuesday to assess the situation.
