Doctors Announce Nationwide Strike From Next Week

Doctors have issued a seven-day strike notice beginning next week on Monday. The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration in Nairobi, protesting among other things the shooting of their Secretary General Davji Atellah by police during a similar demonstration in Nairobi last week. The medics were pushing for the posting of medical interns by the government on Thursday when Atellah struck by a teargas canister. On Monday, the doctors reiterated their push to Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha to employ the interns, saying the delay in posting them has affected services in public hospitals nationwide.

Former Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi Dies At 98

Former Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi has died aged 98, President Samia Suluhu has revealed. Mwinyi, who served as Tanzania's second president between 1985 and 1995, was hospitalised in early February  with his family stating that he was receiving treatment for a chest illness. “With advice from his doctors, the family has decided that it is good that he gets privacy while receiving treatment. Man Shoots Himself Outside Emergency Wing Of Hospital In Nairobi

A 72-year-old man died instantly after shooting himself outside the emergency section of a hospital in Nairobi's South B area.  Abdalla Mohamed is said to have shot himself in the chin while in the back seat of a taxi he had hired to drive him to the hospital.  Mohamed, who is a licensed gun holder, is said to have removed his Berreta Pistol from the safe and went to see his lawyer.  After the meeting with the lawyer, he requested a taxi from one of his long-term drivers.
