President William Ruto in Homa Bay for county investment conference

President William Ruto has arrived in Homa Bay to officially open the county government's 2nd investment conference. The president was received by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga who is hosting the county's big moment to scout for investors. The conference is being attended by hundreds of investors including heads of key banking institutions in the country. The three-day event seeks to bring both international and local investors to tap into the county's investment potential.  Ruto will also inspect various projects currently ongoing in the county. Some of these projects are the construction of 110 units of affordable houses in Homa Bay town, the renovation of both Homa Bay and Kendu Bay piers and the construction fish market in Homa Bay town.

Madagascar Approves New Law To Castrate Child Rapists

Persons convicted of paedophilia in Madagascar will now face surgical castration for their crimes after the country's Parliament, on February 2, passed legislation mandating the same.  The development comes just days after Kazakhstan introduced a similar law in response to local lawmakers who decried that chemical castration, a punishment imposed on child rapists, failed to deter individuals from committing such crimes.  Initially, in Madagascar, child rapists were handed forced labour sentences between five and 20 years but under the new law offenders found guilty of defiling minors under ten years will undergo surgical castration and receive life sentences in prison. Kanye West To Perform In Nairobi In 2024

Hip hop enthusiasts in Kenya have a year to look forward to after legendary American rap maestro Kanye West, alias Ye, announced he could be coming to Kenya later this year.  Ye took to social media to reveal that he is set to perform in Nairobi, at the Nyayo National Stadium, on December 7, 2024.  In the list of some of the world venues he is set to perform, Kenya is among the three African countries he will visit. The other two are Ethiopia and Egypt. University of Nairobi students and staff getting meals from the university kitchens will now be required to make payments through the e-Citizen platform.  This is according to a directive from the Kenya Kwanza government to the university, that all payments to the institution be made through the government online portal.  Subsequently, the university issued a memo a week ago to all students and staff, giving instructions and processes on how to make the payments. Nine major security companies have had their operating licenses cancelled over allegations of violating various regulations. The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) gazetted the names of the companies highlighting their failures in a notice. This is likely to affect their operations at large given they have employed thousands of people and are in business.
