11,278 Passports Ready For Collection From October 9-Interior Ministry

The national passport delivery will continue into the third week, with 11,278 passports ready for collection from Monday, October 9, to Friday, October 13, according to the Interior Ministry. The total number of passports available in Nairobi next week is 5616, 1505 in Mombasa, and 1400 in Kisumu. The Interior Ministry announced earlier this week that a total of 15,400 passports were ready for collection, as the Ministry worked its way through a backlog of over 87,000 passports. Meta To Lay Off Employees In Metaverse Silicon Unit

Meta (META.O) is planning to lay off employees on Wednesday in the unit of its metaverse-oriented Reality Labs division focused on creating custom silicon, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday. Employees were informed of the layoffs in a post on Meta's internal discussion forum Workplace on Tuesday. The post said they would be notified about their status with the company by early Wednesday morning, one of the sources said. A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on the plans. Reuters was not able to determine the extent of the cuts to the silicon unit, called Facebook Agile Silicon Team, or FAST. Over 60 Students From Eregi Girls’ School Hospitalised Over Unknown Illness

More than 60 students from Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega County have been admitted to various hospitals following an outbreak of an unknown illness. 30 students were admitted to the Kakamega Level Five Hospital, 20 to Shibwe Hospital and 10 to Iguhu Hospital.  The students have shown similar symptoms, where they are having trouble walking.  Reports indicate that more students are being rushed to various health facilities in the county.  Sources indicated that initial laboratory tests had revealed that the students had elevated electrolytes, an indication that their bodies had lost fluids. Medical personnel from KEMRI are expected to visit the School on Tuesday to assess the situation.

Two suspected thugs were shot and killed in separate attempted robberies in Limuru and Nairobi. Police said they recovered weapons from the suspects and that some escaped the shooting drama. The first incident happened in Limuru outside an apartment, police said. Police said a team was patrolling in the Marieta area on Saturday night when they found a gang trying to break into Lesley Apartment. A Kenyan woman has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling 3.40 kilos of gold into Mumbai.
