The Kenyan shilling weakened to a new low against the dollar , according to LSEG data. At 1015 GMT, the shilling was trading at 149.35/55 per U.S. dollar, compared with Friday's closing rate of 149.20/40, the data showed. The shilling, which has lost 17.4% of its value against the dollar since the start of the year, touched an all-time low of 149.40/60 earlier in the session. Typically, demand for dollars comes from the energy and manufacturing sectors.

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu Involved In A Road Accident

Collins Oyuu, Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), was involved in a road accident in Kisumu County on Monday morning near Kombewa on the Bondo-Kisumu route. According to Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer RTEO Allan Mwangi, Oyuu's car overturned while avoiding a cyclist as he rushed to catch a flight at Kisumu International Airport. Mr. Mwangi added that both Oyuu and his driver managed to escape unhurt, but the cyclist was, however, injured. Further investigations are underway.

Police in Kisii are in custody of an illegal consignment of bhang valued at over Ksh.11 million after intercepting its transportation on Sunday. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the consignment was being ferried to Kilgoris, Narok County in a white Toyota Prado when officers on patrol noticed that the car was loaded with suspicious goods. A suspect fell off and died as he tried to escape from an irate mob after a failed robbery in Embakasi, Nairobi. Police and witnesses said the suspect had climbed to the rooftop of a four-storey residential apartment and tried to steal Wi-Fi routers in Mradi area. Some tenants at the building said they heard a commotion on the rooftop and raised alarm. Apparently, the man had disabled three of the gadgets when he suddenly tried to escape by jumping off while fearing for his life.
