Senegal declares Public holiday to celebrate AFCON win

Senegal’s President Macky Sall declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate the national football team’s first ever African Cup of Nations crown following their victory against Egypt, public television announced. Sall, who had been due to visit Comoros at the end of a trip that took in Egypt and Ethiopia, cancelled the last leg in order to welcome the triumphant Lions on their return to Dakar at 1300 GMT Monday, RTS said. Led by Liverpool star Sadio Mane, Senegal overcame Mohamed Salah’s Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out at Sunday’s final in Cameroon. The game had finished goalless after extra time. After two previous final defeats in 2002 and 2019, Senegal finally claimed their first Cup of Nations title. The Lions will be decorated by Sall on Tuesday at the presidential ...

Senegal beats Egypt, wins African Cup of Nations in penalty

Sadio Mane netted the winning spot-kick as Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties to clinch their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations after a 0-0 draw. The Liverpool forward had seen a seventh-minute penalty saved by Egypt keeper Gabaski but Mane held his nerve when he returned in the shootout. Chelsea's Edouard Mendy denied Mohanad Lasheen to give Mane the chance to win it in Yaounde's Olembe Stadium. Gabaski had made three good saves from Senegal's Bamba Dieng in extra time. All four of Egypt's knockout games at the tournament went the distance, and the North Africans had beaten Ivory Coast and host Cameroon on spot-kicks en route to the final. Gabaski had already saved four penalties at the tournament by the time the match went to a shootout, but on this occasion, the 33-y...

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi is in Dubai, accompanying Deputy President William Ruto on tour. The duo later paid a visit to Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, who is admitted to an American hospital. Kuria has been in the renowned city for nearly four months receiving specialised treatment after suffering burn injuries in late September 2021. The two later made their way to a visibly ritzy hotel from where they had a clear view of beautiful skyscrapers and fantastic water fountains. Sudi left Kenyans amused when he appeared to be marvelling at the beautiful scenery before him and the deputy president. Unable to hold himself back, Sudi engaged Ruto, who appeared busy on his phone. The two conversed in their first language as they enjoyed the vicinit...

CNN reported that the company's president divulged his relationship only when investigations were launched against former news anchor Chris Cuomo's case on inappropriately advising his brother Andrew Cuomo against assault allegations against him. According to WarnerMedia's (CNN's parent company) Standards of Business Conduct handbook, employees must not hire or supervise (directly or indirectly) someone with whom they have a personal relationship. The National Treasury is spending Sh38 billion to bailout Kenya Airways, Kenya Power and universities.

The National Treasury is spending Sh38 billion to bailout Kenya Airways, Kenya Power and universities. Treasury is seeking the approval of the National Assembly for an extra Sh126 billion spent in this year’s budget. KQ has been allocated a chunk of the additional amount at Sh26 billion followed by expenditures on fuel subsidy that took up Sh24 billion. Allocation to Kenya Airways constituted the highest of the Treasury’s extra spending, most of which was drawn from a reduction in marine transport projects at Sh15 billion. “The reduction is on account of rationalisation of slow-moving projects,” Yatani said, adding that KQ allocation is to help cater to the airline’s expenditures. Universities are also set for a cash boost with the allocation of Sh8.5 billion more to ca...
