Five killed as matatu hits stationary lorry on Nyamira-Nakuru road

Five people were on Monday morning killed after a speeding PSV Matatu hit a stationary lorry at Nyabioto in Manga Sub-County, Nyamira County. According to Nyamira County Commissioner Michael Lesmam, the driver of the Kisii-Nakuru bound matatu lost control of the car and hit the lorry. Three other passengers who were critically injured were rushed to Nyamira referral hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the facility morgue. The County Commissioner has called upon drivers to be careful on the road to help curb the rising number of accidents. Investigations have commenced to establish the exact cause of the accident.

KCSE Kicks Off With Practical Exams Amid KUPPET strike threats

KCSE candidates will begin their practical exams on Monday amid threats by KUPPET to disrupt the exercise over pay grievances. The candidates held rehearsals on Friday last week in readiness for the exams. Theory tests will begin on Monday, March 14, and end on Friday, April 1. The candidates concluded project exams in January that started in July 2021. They are Art and design, Agriculture, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building construction and Computer Studies. Kenya Power Staff Threaten To Strike Over Planned Mass Layoff

The employees, through the Kenya Electrical Trades and Allied Workers Union (KETAWU) have opposed the planned retrenchments, saying that they have not been involved in the plan. According to the power supplier’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Rosemary Oduor, the phased voluntary employee separation (VES) exercise will send home 1,962  employees and replace them with 830 younger staff at a cheaper cost. “The company, because of low attrition rate, has an ageing and expensive workforce resulting in staff cost growing at nearly twice the rate of revenue growth,” Oduor previously said in an internal circular dated January 24. Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina disowns woman

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has disowned a woman who moved to court last year seeking to compel him to pay child support. The woman wanted the court to order the senator to pay Sh200,000 as child support. She claimed that they had a relationship with the legislator two years ago but he has since cut off communication with her. But Ledama through Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo has told the court that he does not know the child. “I do not know the child. It is not true that I had any relations with the woman,” Ledama says.
