President Ruto Unveils Reshuffle In Senior KDF Appointments

President William Ruto has promoted Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the esteemed rank of Lieutenant General, appointing him as the Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). Kahariri will replace outgoing Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi who is retiring after serving 42 years in the armed forces. Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus has also been elevated to a similar rank as Kahariri and appointed Kenya Army Commander. No bars will operate beyond stipulated hours – Kindiki

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki now says that no bars or liquor-selling establishments will be allowed to operate beyond the set, operating hours. Speaking on Wednesday, Kindiki said any contravention of these directives shall attract punishment.  The perpetrators, he said will be fined or imprisoned as stipulated by law. "No bars or alcoholic outlets shall be allowed to operate beyond the stipulated operation hours as provided in section 34 of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, failure to which the operator shall be fined or imprisoned as provided by law and all the drinks, and related accessories in the premises forfeited with accompanying license withdrawal," Kindiki said. Judge faces removal over alleged gross misconduct

A judge of the Environment and Land Court is currently facing removal over allegations of gross misconduct and incompetence. The judge is also facing accusations of violation of the Judicial Service Code of Conduct. In a statement on Wednesday, Chief Justice Martha Koome said the Judicial Service Commission on diverse dates received a total of five petitions for his removal. Upon reception, the JSC on May 31, 2023, initiated proceedings against the judge for inordinately delaying or failing to deliver rulings or judgements in a total of 116 matters. A panel was appointed to consider the said petitions and presented a report to JSC on February 22, 2024. Ministry of Education announces 2,000 Degree and Diploma jobs

The Ministry of Education has announced 2,000 job openings in Vocational and Technical Training. In a notice , the trainers who will be under the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training will be distributed in various institutions across the country. "Applications are invited from qualified Degree, Higher National Diploma and Diploma holders for the positions of Vocational and Technical Trainers," the notice reads in part. The ministry seeks to hire 1,313 Degree and Higher Diploma holders and 687 Diploma holder trainers. The jobs will be spread in the 47 counties. Two people have been confirmed dead following a mid-air collision between two planes in Nairobi. The deceased are reported to be a trainee pilot and instructor who were onboard a Cessna aircraft belonging to Ninety-Nines Flying School. The aircraft crashed into the Nairobi National Park killing the two on the spot. LSK to sue KRA for contempt of court on housing levy

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has said it will initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Kenya Revenue of Authority commissioner general over alleged illegal deduction of housing levy. Addressing the press Monday, LSK president-elect Faith Odhiambo said there was no legal basis for the taxman including other state agencies to deduct the funds from employees. It has also called on Kenyans who may have fallen victims to volunteer the information to the LSK. Doctors have issued a seven-day strike notice beginning next week on Monday. The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration in Nairobi, protesting among other things the shooting of their Secretary General Davji Atellah by police during a similar demonstration in Nairobi last week. The medics were pushing for the posting of medical interns by the government on Thursday when Atellah struck by a teargas canister.
