Ministry Of Health Closely Monitoring Cholera Outbreak in Garissa, Wajir, Tana River Counties

The Ministry of Health is keeping close surveillance on Garissa, Wajir and Tana River counties following the recent increase in cases of Cholera.  The three counties are among 14 counties that have been seriously affected by the disease since October last year when the first case was reported.  The cases in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu have gone down, but the ministry is warning Kenyans against laxity even as they try to stop the spread of this acute diarrhoeal disease. Three months after the first case of Cholera, more than 3,000 people have been affected in 14 counties.  The spread has been attributed to the movements and sharing of meals during the festive season. According to the head of Disease Surveillance and Response at the Min...

Prince Harry’s Memoir Breaks UK Sales Record On First Day Of Release

Prince Harry's "Spare" became the UK's fastest selling non-fiction book ever, its publisher said on Tuesday, after days of TV interviews, leaks, and a mistaken early release of the memoir containing intimate revelations about the British royal family. Harry's book has garnered attention around the world with its disclosures about his personal struggles and its accusations about other royals, including his father King Charles, stepmother Camilla and elder brother Prince William. "We always knew this book would fly but it is exceeding even our most bullish expectations," Transworld Penguin Random House Managing Director Larry Finlay said in a statement. "As far as we know, the only books to have sold more in their first day are those starring the other Harry (Potter)." Citin...

ICT,CS Owalo Says First Locally-Made Mobile Phone To Be Ready By August

Information Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo says Kenya is on its track to manufacturing mobile phones under the ambitious multi-million-shilling Konza Techno-polis plan in Malili, Machakos County. As the fate of Konza, which was touted as Africa’s Silicon Savanah ahead of its launch in January 2013, remains unclear ten years later, the CS says the infrastructure is already in place and that local telecoms will be among the first firms to set camp this year.  “The telecoms have realised that in the near future, Kenya must become a manufacturer of phones and cheap technology as opposed to a chief importer, so we are going to start manufacturing, the technology is already there and we are going to roll out this initiative by July,” Owalo said on Tuesday. Speaking to Citi...

The bus was travelling from the eastern Ugandan city of Mbale to Nairobi and crashed in the Kenyan town of Lwakhakha, just across the border from a Ugandan town of the same name. Electricity prices to rise by 15% in January 2023 as subsidy is dropped

Consumers will be hit by an electricity price shock in January 2023 as the subsidy which retired president Uhuru Kenyatta initiated is dropped. Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) director-general Daniel Kiptoo said the 15 per cent discount would not be extended beyond its expiry date of December 31, 2022. “When the new government came in, it withdrew the support (subsidy) in August, and thus after the end of December, we will revert to the rates that were in place before January,” President William Ruto has been against subsidies imposed by his predecessor on items like petrol and maize which were meant to ease the cost of living crisis and boost economic growth. However, Ruto eliminated subsidies terming them unsustainable. In his inaugural speech on Tues...
