The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an apology after being put on the spot for using the wrong images to depict ‘Maandamano’ protests on Monday. In a social media post on Saturday, DCI said, "The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to unreservedly apologize to the public for the mix-up of images in yesterday’s communication, which was meant to appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of criminal suspects involved in Monday’s illegal demonstrations." Ruto To Begin 3-Day Visit To South Nyanza

President William Ruto is from Thursday set to embark on a three-day visit to the South Nyanza region, his first since assuming office in August last year.  The tour will see him visit Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties. In Kisii County on Thursday, the Head of State is expected to begin with the launch of the Kegati Water Project in Nyaribari Chache Constituency at 11 a.m., from where he will head to West Mugirango to launch the Sironga Housing Project, Constituency at 1 p.m. Thereafter, Ruto will commission upgrading of the Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko Road in Kitutu Masaba Constituency. State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamedon Wednesday said President Ruto will hold meetings with leaders in the regions.

Former Chief Justice Mutunga Appointed MUHURI Board Chair

Mutunga, who served as the country's Chief Justice from 2011 to 2016 was elected unanimously. He takes over from Khelef Khalifa. A statement by MUHURI noted that Mutunga's grasp of matters human rights and the law will help the body advance its goal of fighting impunity. "He brings an immense wealth of experience especially in the civil society and human rights sectors," the statement reads in part. MUHURI added that his track record of defending the law will help boost constitutionalism in Kenya. Mutunga joined the Mombasa-based non-governmental organization as a board member in 2021.

Govt Gazettes 30 Companies Only Cleared to Offer Retirement Benefits [LIST]

The Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) on Tuesday, March 21, published the names of 30 insurance companies that were authorised to offer retirement benefits services to Kenyans. In the list, the government agency listed APA Life Assurance Limited, Britam Life Assurance Company Kenya Limited, Chancery Wright Insurance Brokers Limited, CIC Life Assurance Limited and CPF Financial Services Limited as some of the companies cleared to offer the services. The Jubilee Insurance Company of Kenya Limited, the Kenyan Alliance Insurance Company Limited, the Monarch Insurance Company Limited, UAP Life Assurance Limited and Zamara Actuaries Administrators & Consultants Limited were also included in the list. Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko claimed Monday to have survived an assassination attempt during his appearance at a politically charged trial that sparked deadly unrest last week. Sonko, a fierce opponent of President Macky Sall, has been receiving medical treatment since he was allegedly sprayed with tear gas and manhandled while authorities escorted him to a courthouse on Thursday.
