Government extends nationwide curfew by another 30 days

The government has extended the existing Covid-19 containment measures for another period of 30 days. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday said the country is yet to hit the World Health Organisation recommended positivity rate of five per cent for a consistent period of 14 days. "The containment measures including the curfew hours of 10 pm to 4 am will remain there and this is for two reasons... number one is that we are still as far as the positivity rate is concerned we are still above the WHO recommended figures in terms of two weeks period when you have got less than 5 per cent of positivity rate at a high testing level," Kagwe said. Curfew to run until May 29, for the infected zone.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said the ongoing curfew will run until May 29, 2021. This is both for the disease infected zone and the rest of the country. The infected zones curfew run from 8pm to 4am while the rest of the country from 10pm to 4am. The president in his directives last month did not give a timeline for the curfews only noting that the restrictions will stay in place "until otherwise notified."  In the Gazette Notice dated April 12, Matiang'i said the curfew will be in place for 60 days effective March 29, 2021. Moses Kuria, Spends night behind bars.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria spent Monday night behind bars after he was arrested for allegedly violating the curfew order imposed by the State. The Jubilee MP was arrested in a night raid that was conducted by police before being locked up at Karuri Police Station in Kiambu County. Kuria confirmed his arrest in a short post on his official Facebook page without providing details on why he had been arrested. But sources say the Gatundu South Legislator was arrested for flouting the Covid-19 regulations by holding a meeting inside one of the hotels along the Northern Bypass. The MP shared pictures in which he is with his supporters as he was being booked at the police station.
