South African President Cyril Ramaphosa tests positive for Covid-19

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and was receiving treatment for mild symptoms, the presidency said in a statement. Ramaphosa, who is fully vaccinated, began feeling unwell after leaving a state memorial service for former president FW de Klerk in Cape Town earlier in the day but was in good spirits and being monitored by doctors, it said. The highly mutated Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa last month and sparked global panic over fears that it is more contagious than other variants. Ramaphosa would remain in self-isolation in Cape Town for the time being and had delegated all responsibilities to Deputy President David Mabuza for the next week. On a recent visit to four West African states, the president and t...

Mass Looting in Bay Area, This Time Nordstrom in Walnut Creek

Bay Area looters have coordinated by the dozens and descended upon high-end retail stores ... and on Saturday, Walnut Creek's number was called. Check out this footage that was captured last night by NBC reporter Jodi Hernandez, who filmed a surreal scene at a Nordstrom store in the mostly upscale East Bay city. As she describes ... it looks like scores of people pulled up to the curb in a concerted effort. She captured more footage of Walnut PD officers arriving on the scene and apprehending a few of the thieves -- but by all accounts, a majority of them got away ... with only 3 arrests being made that night. Three out of about a reported 80 people -- so not even close. It's a deeply troubling trend that started to make itself known in San Francisco just the night before, on...

AU calls for immediate release of detained officials in Sudan

African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has called for the immediate release of arrested leaders in Sudan.  Unidentified armed men arrested a number of Sudanese leaders early Monday, after weeks of tensions between the military and civilian transitional authorities. The detentions came as tensions peaked between the military and civilian figures who shared power since August 2019 following the ouster of autocratic President Omar al-Bashir months earlier. In a statement on Monday, Moussa said the arrest of political leaders goes against human rights. Among those arrested are Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdock and other civilian officials. Mousa further called for the immediate resumption of consultations between civilians and the military. This, he ...
