Chebukati, ex-IEBC commissioners to appear before National Dialogue Committee

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Committee chairperson Wafula Chebukati, former vice Juliana Cherera and five commissioners will today (Thursday) to appear before the National Dialogue Committee. Chebukati, Cherera and commissioners Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya will make submissions before the committee leading bi-partisan talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio. The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the Council of Governors, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, the Media Council of Kenya and Amnesty International will also appear before the committee. Presidential aspirants and those eyeing gubernatorial seats in the August General Election now have two more weeks to name their running mates. This is after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) extended the April 28 deadline for submitting running mate names to May 16. Chebukati dismisses claims of postponing 2022 polls

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has dismissed reports on the possibility to postpone the 2022 general elections. Chebukati said elections will be conducted next year as stipulated in the Constitution. "I have seen reports of plans to delay the general elections. IEBC for a fact does not react to opinions from organizations or individuals," he noted. The commission's chairman noted that IEBC is guided by the law which highlights that the next general elections will be held on August 9, 2022.
