Raila to name running mate today

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga is set to unveil his running mate today. Speaking at the Kamukunji grounds on Sunday, the former Prime Minister said he will name the person that will deputise him in the August 9 General Election at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from 11 am. "Nimeangalia hali ya anga na nataka kuwaambia kwamba kesho saa tano kule KICC nitatangaza," Raila said. This loosely translates to, "I have read the mood and I want to tell you that tomorrow at KICC, at 11 am I will announce." Former Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has been appointed the Executive Director of Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja campaign secretariat. In a statement on Wednesday, secretariat Communications Director, Dennis Onyango, said Tuju assumes the role with immediate effect. “As Executive Director, Hon. Tuju will coordinate all member parties of Azimio and will lead the strategic and programme teams that will work to ensure Azimio's victory in the August elections,” said Onyango. Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has officially announced that his Devolution Empowerment Party has joined the Azimio La Umoja movement. The party will back ODM leader Raila Odinga for his presidential bid. Raila attended the party meeting in Meru where he was officially backed for the presidency.
