Lillian secures first-round win in property dispute with Governor Mutua

Governor Alfred Mutua’s estranged lover Lillian Nganga has won the first round of their bitter court battle over a property dispute. This is after the court dismissed Mutua’s pleas to have the case transferred to Machakos where he claimed the dispute arose. However, the court dismissed his objections ruling that the matter will be heard in Nairobi. Mutua had argued that the Nairobi court lacked territorial jurisdiction to hear and determine the case on the basis that the dispute arose within Machakos County. The court also dismissed the county boss argument that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case filed by Nganga on the basis of the value of the shares and stocks in question. Mutua had also claimed that the issues raised by Nganga in the case were resjudicata arguin...

Nairobi MCAs in bid to rename Mbagathi Way after Raila Odinga

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga could be the latest public figure to have a road in Nairobi named after him should county assembly members pass a motion backing the move sponsored by Minority Whip Peter Imwatok. The motion, whose notice was tabled last week and is set to be moved this week, wants Mbagathi Way renamed Raila Odinga Road, ostensibly in recognition of the former prime minister’s contribution to the growth of the country by championing good governance, democratic ideals and development of infrastructure. Mr Imwatok (Makongeni, ODM) noted that it was under the leadership of the former Lang’ata MP’s tenure as Roads and Public Works minister in 2005 that plans to rebuild Mbagathi Way were mooted. The second-term ward rep added that Mr Odinga h...
