2022 KCSE Released as 1,146 Candidates Score Grade A as CS Machogu marks Improved perfomance

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has officially released the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results which he says mark an improved performance compared to the previous year. Unveiling the results at the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, Machogu noted that out of the 881,416 candidates who sat the 2022 KCSE exam 173,345 scored the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above compared to 145,776 in 2021. The Education pointed out that in 2022 a total of 1,146 candidates scored grade A compared to 1,138 in 2021. A total of 522,588 candidates scored grade D+ and above in the 2022 KCSE exam. Ministry Of Health Closely Monitoring Cholera Outbreak in Garissa, Wajir, Tana River Counties

The Ministry of Health is keeping close surveillance on Garissa, Wajir and Tana River counties following the recent increase in cases of Cholera.  The three counties are among 14 counties that have been seriously affected by the disease since October last year when the first case was reported.  The cases in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu have gone down, but the ministry is warning Kenyans against laxity even as they try to stop the spread of this acute diarrhoeal disease. Four police officers have been arrested while attempting to rob staff of a foreign exchange bureau in Nairobi. The Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) has introduced a new dress code barring female students from wearing tumbo cuts and miniskirts as well as various other clothing the institution has deemed inappropriate. In a memo dated January 5, 2022, Dean of Students Dr. Esther Mbaabu noted that female students who wear see through clothing and body tight trousers will be in breach of the newly introduced dress code. Celebrated News Anchor Catherine Kasavuli Dead At 60

Veteran Kenyan media personality Catherine Kasavuli has died.  The news of her demise was confirmed by acting KBC Managing Director Samuel Maina.  Kasavuli who recently opened up about her battle with cervical cancer, succumbed to the illness in Nairobi on Thursday night. Ms Kasavuli was the first female TV news anchor in the country, and is credited with breaking the glass ceiling for female TV journalists in the country. During her illustrious career which boomed between the 1990s and 2015, Kasavuli graced Kenyan TV screens as an anchor in most of Kenya's leading television stations including Citizen TV, State broadcaster KBC and KTN. Kasavuli returned to KBC in 2020, where she hosted the Legend Edition.

Two Tanzanians Among 3 Arrested With Elephant Tusks Worth Ksh.500K In Kisumu

Three suspects, among them two Tanzanians, have been apprehended by police in Kisumu after they were found in possession of elephant tusks valued at over Ksh.500,000. In a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, 52-year-old Wilson Korio was arrested together with Tanzanians Jakaya Mchubo Paswa (42), and Lemintiye Mbukoti (27), after they were found with eight pieces of elephant tusks weighing 16kg.  DCI says that the arrest came after detectives in Kisumu received a tip-off from an informant, and then liaised with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) personnel to make the bust. IMF Approves Ksh.55 Billion Loan To Kenya

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a Ksh.55.1 billion ($447.39 million) loan to Kenya. The loan represents the fourth tranche of a wider Ksh.288 billion ($2.34 billion) 38-month long loan facility which was first approved in April last year. The new loan bring total disbursements under the three year program to Ksh.203.8 billion ($1.656 billion) after the fourth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangements between the IMF and Kenya. Eight People Killed In Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Accident

Eight people died while 21 others sustained serious injuries following a road accident involving a trailer and two matatus at Ngata Bridge on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Tuesday. Police reports indicate that the trailer heading to Nakuru from Eldoret lost control and rammed into the two public service vehicles that were headed towards the Eldoret route. The accident subsequently caused a heavy traffic snarl-up along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway. CBK Reintroduces Charges Between Mobile money to Bank Transfer that were waived in 2020.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has reintroduced charges on transactions between mobile money wallets and bank accounts which had been waived on March 16 2020. The charges are set to be restored from January 1, 2023, and follow discussions and lobbying between the CBK, banks and payment service providers with the latter two groups pushing for the fees return. The payment service providers (PSPs) and banks have nevertheless agreed to revise the maximum charges on the transactions following consultations with the CBK. The revised maximum charges for transfers from bank accounts to mobile money wallets will be reduced by an average of 61 per cent while the inverse (mobile wallets to bank accounts) charges will fall by an average of 47 per cent.
