Migori: One Killed, Four Injured In An Accident In Rongo

One person died following an accident involving a matatu and a tractor in Rongo, Migori County. A police report seen by Citizen Digital shows that the incident happened at Marera area along the Rongo-Kisii highway. "The tractor, which was heading towards Rongo, developed a mechanical problem before colliding with the matatu," the report said. An unidentified man died as a result of the impact. "He succumbed to injuries at the scene while four people who were  in the matatu sustained injuries." The injured were rushed to Royal Hospital in Rongo. The body of the deceased was taken to Rosewood mortuary pending autopsy. The accident comes days after a section of residents raised concern over rising cases of road accident along the highway. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will today, Wednesday, launch the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal for 2022 KCSE candidates. The launch is set to take place at the University of Nairobi's (UoN) Taifa Hall where he will also be launching the Nairobi Innovation Week at the same event. The University of Nairobi has been named the only Kenyan University to make it to the top 2,000 universities globally. In the 2023 ranking edition by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) released on Monday, UoN was placed 1,425th on the list and ranked as the leading higher learning institution in Kenya. CWUR added that UoN's employability rank was recorded at 1,610 which was measured by the professional success of its alumni, including the number of top positions they have held at major companies relative to the university's size (25%). Police in Uganda have arrested a woman who was captured on video allegedly forcing her four-year-old stepson to eat his faeces. Esther Nabirye, 26, was apprehended on Monday after the video, which had already gone viral, caused an uproar from the public prompting the police to take action. A radio station in Nakuru County was reportedly robbed while presenters were live on air on Thursday night. The robbery at the Mwinjoyo FM studios, which was caught on camera in a now viral video, occurred as the presenters were going about their show normally. Televangelist Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church has been arrested.  His arrest comes just a day after he was questioned about alleged links to Paul Mackenzie, the leader of a starvation cult that has lead to the deaths of at least 98 people in Kenya, as well as alleged congregant indoctrination. Coast Regional Commissioner Rodha Onyanja confirmed the preacher's arrest on Thursday morning, saying he was apprehended by joint security teams in Coast. Gunmen raided a private hospital in the Ruai area, Nairobi and robbed patients of mobile phones and cash. Guards at the Ruai Family Hospital told police the gang of two riding on a motorbike struck on Monday, April 10, at 4 am and forced their way into the facility. The guards said the gang was armed with pistols when they arrived and demanded cash and electronics. Seven people have been killed including the driver of an ill-fated lorry that was transporting rice to the border town of Isebania before developing brake failure and crashing in Migori.
