CS Amina Mohamed’s husband dies in Nairobi.

The husband of Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed is dead. The family said Khalid Ahmed died Thursday morning in Karen Hospital, Nairobi after a short illness. A family spokesman said the incident happened at about 5 am. Khalid, a father of two, was largely off public life while committed to his family and business. Senior government officials rushed to her Nairobi home after the news of the death was made amid plans to bury him. The family said the CS is more affected given she had in March 2021 lost her brother Esmael Mohammed Jibril, a prominent city businessman, while receiving treatment in India.

Demand for ICU beds rises amid surge in virus cases

Kenya is experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Ministry of Health has warned. With this, there is increased demand for ICU beds in hospitals to accommodate the high number of infections. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has asked county governments to ensure availability of sufficient oxygen. Kagwe reiterated that the oxygen should be properly piped in the various health facilities. He spoke on Wednesday during a press conference at Afya House on Covid-19 update. "We can already see an increase of demand of ICU beds as well as oxygen requirement,"Kagwe said. Manhunt launched for gunmen who raided Equity Bank’s Matuu branch

A major hunt was Tuesday launched for gunmen who disarmed police and raided Equity Bank Matuu branch in a heist. Witnesses and police said the gang of three first attacked two police officers who were on duty at the facility and grabbed their guns before storming the bank. They ordered some of the staff and customers present to lie down in the drama before they stormed out. Police say they don’t know how much, if any, was robbed. According to police, the gang also engaged responding teams in a shootout and they suspect one of the men was injured. Met puts four coastal counties on alert over rough sea conditions

Moderate to rough sea conditions are expected due to winds in Coastal region. In a seven-day marine forecast beginning July 27 to August 2, Met said winds of 15-29Knots, high significant waves height of (1.8-2.7m) are expected. The counties are; Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu. "Small crafts, boat and canoes should not venture into the sea, because of large wave of upto 2.7m," the Kenya Meteorological Department said.  The Ocean is relatively calm with very little disturbance when it is 1 – 6 knots. The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has refuted claims he ordered the arrest and questioning of High Court judges Aggrey Muchelule and Said Chitembwe. In a statement on Thursday, the DPP said he was not aware of the reason leading to their arrests and questioning, and that his office had not received any files concerning them. "Contrary to reports by one Eric Theuri, purportedly speaking for LSK blaming the DPP for the arrest, the DPP is not aware of circumstances which led to arrest or questioning of 2 Judges," Haji said. Education CS George Magoha has announced a reduction in secondary school fees due to the short nature of the 2021 school calendar. National schools will pay Sh8,500 less while Extra-County and County schools will pay Sh5,500 less. This means the new fees in National schools will be Sh45,054 while learners in Extra County and County Schools will pay Sh39,554Schools. The schools are set to reopen on July 26. Missing musician Irungu Njaro found dead in Masinga dam

The body of a musician who had been missing for four days has been found floating in Masinga dam in Embu County. Edward Irungu Njaro, popularly known as Wanjaro Junior, is suspected to have committed suicide by plunging into the crocodile infested dam located in the expansive Mbeere Sub-County. He disappeared from his Kasarani home in Nairobi on July 14 and on Saturday, his lifeless body was spotted in the dam. 13 killed after fuel tanker accident along Kisumu-Busia Highway

Thirteen people died on Saturday night after a fuel tanker burst into flames along the Kisumu- Busia road. According to Gem subcounty Police commander Charles Chacha, the accident happened at around 10.45 pm in Malanga Village. Chacha said that 11 people, including children escaped with serious injuries from the fire and are receiving treatment at the Yala subcounty hospital where they were rushed after the accident.
