Traffic Police caught taking bribes attack EACC officers

EACC detectives on a covert operation along the Kisumu - Bondo road on Friday had hard time trying to arrest four traffic police officers at Kombewa. There was drama during the sting operation that saw a traffic police officer cock his gun and another physically assault EACC detectives to avoid being arrested. Determined to complete their mission, officers however managed to nab one traffic cop, a sergeant. According to a report from the anti-graft agency, the policewoman was held in a suspected case of receiving a bribe. The National Police Service Commission has embarked on a countrywide mental assessment of police officers. This comes when the country is witnessing a shocking surge in cases of suicide and murders within the service. The exercise which started in Nairobi in May is meant to ascertain the mental fitness of officers to continue carrying out their police work. Two terror suspects were dramatically arrested by Special Forces detectives and Anti-Terror Police joint in Mombasa on Monday. They were nabbed at the Likoni-Ferry crossing channel on the mainland side at around 10 am. A video clip seen show detectives hastily surrounding the probox car registration number KCE 695U before arresting the two. Two AK-47 rifles, mobile phones, ammunition and other items were recovered during the joint operation. Njoro cop storms hospital, shoots dead girlfriend before killing self

There was drama at the Njoro sub county Hospital when a police officer pursued a patient seeking treatment there and shot her dead before taking his own life. The patient later emerged to be his girlfriend who he had earlier on argued with her in their house before he assaulted her. Constable Bernard Sivo had first attacked his girlfriend Mary Nyambura, 29 in their house and broke her right leg in an assault. The woman later managed to go to the hospital where she sought to be treated for a fractured leg. He apparently got wind that she had gone to the hospital. A man has been arrested in connection with robberies in Nyali, Mombasa county. Abdulmanaf Omar 29, is part of a three-gang that bundled a Nigerian national in his hired car before robbing him off. The Nigerian narrated how he hired a Toyota Spade from a Omar on July 19, 2021 at Sh135,000, being an entire month's fee. "They had agreed that the victim would return the vehicle on August 18, only for the car hire dealer to turn rogue and breach the agreement," director George Kinoti said. The much anticipated BBI judgement will be delivered in open court on Friday this week. In a communication to parties, the court of appeal says the judgement will be read by the seven judges in open court. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only 16 lawyers will be allowed in the court while the rest will follow proceedings online. Court of Appeal Deputy Registrar Lorraine Ogombe says each side should select 8 lawyers who will be in court. The parties have until the end of Wednesday to choose and forward the names of the 16 lawyers to the court. Cops linked to Embu brothers’ deaths detained for 14 days

A court has allowed an application by the state to detain six police officers linked to the death of two Embu brothers - Benson Ndwiga (22), and Emmanuel Ndwiga (19) for 14 days. The officers were on Tuesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts. They are PC Lilian Cherono, PC Martin Wanyama, Cpl Benson Mputhia PC Nicholas Sang, PC James Mwaniki and Cpl Consolota Kariuki. Only Kariuki had a lawyer. The prosecution in the case is led by Assistant DPP Jacinta Nyamosi while the LSK represented by Nelson Havi is representing the family of the deceased. Over seven thousand 2020 KCSE students who qualified for the university under government sponsorship failed to take part in the revision exercise subsequently missing out on enrollment. In the 2020 KCSE examination, some 142,540 candidates obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service data indicates that 128,073 students were placed to degree courses while 6,617 opted for diploma courses in technical colleges. “7850 with C+ (Plus) and above failed to apply,” Education CS George Magoha said. A day set for celebration turned tragic after four men, mistaken to be cattle thieves, were brutally murdered last Sunday in Kitengela. The two brothers and their two cousins had gone to visit a relative in Kitengela for a housewarming party and to celebrate the birthday of one of them.
