The fund was launched on November 30, 2022, by Ruto's government with the aim to directly empower the Micro and Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Court To Deliver Verdict On Finance Act Petitions Today

The High Court will today, November 28, deliver a judgement on petitions challenging Kenya’s Finance Act 2023.  A bench consisting of Justices David Majanja, Christine Meoli and Lawrence Mugambi is set to give a verdict on the petitions. Various petitions were filed challenging the Act that came into force on July 1 before Justice Mugure Thande issued conservatory orders suspending its implementation. The Finance Bill 2023 was passed by parliament on June 22, 2023, and later assented by President William Ruto on June 26.  The High Court would later suspend the implementation of the act on June 30, after multiple petitions were filed.  On July 29, the Court of Appeal lifted the suspension, leading to a hearing of the case on September 13.  Busia Se...

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) main examinations officially began on Monday morning.  Officials from the Ministry of Education arrived at various exam collection centres early in the morning to oversee the distribution of exam materials. 8 Dead After Matatu And Truck Collide On Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

Eight people have been confirmed dead after a matatu and trailer collided on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Monday morning.  The 3.00 am incident involved a 14-seater matatu which was heading towards Nakuru direction and the truck that was heading towards the Eldoret direction.  The accident occurred at the Ngata stretch, and those injured were rushed to the Nakuru level 6 hospital. “We have now established that 8 people have died, 5 others, including children were seriously injured. The lorry driver escaped after the accident, we are looking for him. The matatu driver is among those who died," Nakuru county police commander Samuel Ndanyi said on Monday morning.

Kenya Railways increases fare Following Increase in Fuel prices

Kenya Railways company has increased fares across all routes in the country by 50 per cent. In the latest review, a passenger travelling to Mombasa will now pay Sh1,500 effective January 1, 2024, up from the current Sh1,000. Tickets purchased before then will, however, not be affected. For those who wish to travel with first class, they will have to pay Sh4,500, up from Sh3,000. “This increase is informed by changes in that energy and petroleum sector where prices of fuel have significantly increased thus increasing the cost of operations,” Kenya Railways said. Amnesty International wants the Kenyan government to reduce the life imprisonment sentence to 20 years. This is in the wake of a proposal by the Judiciary seeking to make changes in the penalties given to capital offenders. The Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2023 and Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) 2023 by the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) through the National Committee on Criminal Justice Reforms (NCCJR) seek to reduce the sentences of murderers, sex offenders, and those facing life in prison to 30 years. 17,124 passports ready for collection from October 31

The national passport delivery will continue into the third week, with 17, 124 passports ready for collection from Monday, October 31. It will be the sixth week of the Rapid Results Initiative. The Ministry of Interior has announced that the passports will be collected from the immigration regional offices from October 31 to Monday to November 3, 2023. In Nairobi, 7,500  passports will be ready for collection at Nyayo House, 1,543 in Eldoret, 1, 752 in Embu, and 1,501 in Kisii.
