Lamu night travel ban on cargo vehicles lifted eight years on

The government has lifted an eight-year-old ban on night travel for cargo transporters plying the Lamu-Witu-Garsen road in Lamu County. Since 2014, following terrorist attacks, public service vehicles (PSV) had been operating only during day and in one convoy escorted by armed police. Private vehicles, including those ferrying cargo, were also banned from travelling at night. Speaking in Witu over the weekend, Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata announced that the ban on night travel for vehicles transporting food, building materials, farm produce and other goods had been lifted. A man was Monday arrested after he allegedly killed his wife and four children in a village in Kirinyaga County in a bizarre incident. The man identified as Paul Murage Njuki, 35, is said to have also defiled one of his deceased daughters before killing her. He surrendered to the local police Monday before he led detectives to the location he had dumped a killer weapon and his house where the bodies were. The children are aged between 13 and one. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has asked the Director of Criminal Investigations to block all the social media platforms of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. Constable Robert Longare is missing with his G3 rifle that was loaded with 20 bullets after he allegedly shot and killed his colleague John Siro in an argument Tuesday. The man who is believed to have murdered the BBC journalist in a hotel room in Nairobi before dying in a fall was her fixer. Officials aware of the probe say Henry Timati Mauti, the Kenyan man who is suspected to be the killer of Kate Mitchell, was known to her and was helping her move around. The man, a graduate of USIU, had studied radiography. The motive of the incident is yet to be established. An Ethiopian businessman based in Nairobi is missing after he was abducted by unknown people on Friday, November 19. Samson Teklemichael was driving his Bentley car when he was stopped in broad daylight by a man wearing traffic police uniforms and later removed by other men in civilian clothes. The recruitment process for the third phase of the Kazi mtaani programme is set to begin on Friday, November 19. Principal Secretary for State Department of Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga in a statement announced that interested persons will be required to register through the Kazi Mtaani Management System portal.  "The online portal will ensure those interested be registered in a timely, transparent and efficient manner that will be equitable across the board," he said on Tuesday.
