Presidential escort unit officer shoots himself in the Head

A police officer attached to the elite presidential escort unit died by suicide in a bizarre incident in his house in Juja, Kiambu County. Constable Samuel Ngatia who was attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s security team died after shooting himself in the head on Monday morning. The motive behind the incident is yet to be known and police are conducting investigations. He was alone in the house within the General Service Unit’s Recce squad camp along Kenyatta Road at the time of the incident. He used his pistol to blow up his head and preliminary findings show the bullet entered on the right side and exited on the left side, officials who visited the scene said. Over 30,000 KCPE candidates to join National schools

Some 38,797 KCPE candidates have been selected to join national schools on May 3, 2022. Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha says 214,960 others have been placed in extra county schools while 258,456 will be enrolled in county schools. Another 726,311 students will be enrolled in subcounty schools while 2,045 have been placed in special needs schools. Magoha said more than 800 students from informal settlements are among those selected to join national and extra county schools. He said their selection was based on affirmative action and was purely on merit.  Overall, a total of 1,214,031 candidates sat the 2021 KCPE exam. Key highlights of 2022/23 Budget

The budget is Sh3.31 trillion. This is 4.8 per cent more compared to the Sh2.9 trillion budget for the 2020/21 fiscal year. The Budget comes two months earlier than the usual June date. This is to allow sufficient preparation for the August 9 general elections. The budget will be the last under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime. It will cover expenditure for the period between July 1, 2022, to June 31, 2023. The national government will take the biggest chunk of the monies- Sh2.07 trillion. The majority of national government expenditure will go to the Executive – Sh2.01 trillion. Parliament will take Sh38.4 billion. Judiciary will get Sh18.8 billion. The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has put Italian candy maker Ferrero, which makes Kinder Joy chocolate, on notice over safety concerns after European markets pulled the product from supermarket shelves due to health concerns. European authorities halted the popular chocolate product, which is popular among children, on a precautionary recall due to salmonella outbreak fears. In an interview with Business Daily, KEBS managing director Bernard Njiraini stated that all products sold in Kenya will be tested for safety before any further action is taken. Three suspected thugs were on Thursday nabbed for allegedly robbing passengers in a matatu of their mobile phones and other valuables in Nairobi. The trio; Vincent Obongo (38), Edward Kimani (22) and Mohamed Idi Ndote (27), is said to have been disguised as genuine matatu operators plying the Mombasa Road route around Nyayo stadium area.
