China urges Gaza To ceasefire

China is willing to do “whatever is conducive” to promote dialogue, secure a ceasefire and restore peace amid the deepening conflict in Gaza, China’s state media has reported, citing the country’s special envoy on the Middle East. Veteran diplomat Zhai Jun is currently on a tour of the region and described the situation in Gaza as “very serious”, state-run China Central Television said on Monday. He also said a potential large-scale ground conflict and armed conflicts spreading to neighbouring countries were “worrisome”. China will continue close communication with all parties in the international community, said Zhai, who took part in Sunday’s Cairo peace Summit where United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for swift “action to end this godawful nightmare” afte...

Canada withdraws 41 Diplomats from India

Forty-one Canadian diplomats have recently left India amid a rift over the murder of a Sikh separatist leader on Canadian soil. India asked Canada two weeks ago to withdraw dozens of its diplomatic staff and threatened to remove their immunity if they remained. Canadian officials called the threat a "violation of international law". Relations have been tense after Canada accused India of being behind the 18 June killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has denied the allegations, calling them "absurd". On Thursday, Canada's foreign minister, Melanie Joly, confirmed that many Canadian diplomats and their dependents in India have now left the country. She said India had said that immunity for "all but 21 diplomats" will be "unilaterally removed" by 20 October. The BBC...

At Least 10 Killed In Mexico Church Roof Collapse

At least ten people, including three children, were killed and 60 more injured when the roof of a church came crashing down on a baptism in northeastern Mexico on Sunday, authorities said. The disaster struck the coastal town of Ciudad Madero, in Tamaulipas state, with a Red Cross rescuer telling local media that 80 people had been in attendance at the Santa Cruz parish when the roof caved in. "Unfortunately, ten people are confirmed dead. Of these, five are women, two men and three children," Americo Villarreal, governor of Tamaulipas, told reporters at the scene of the disaster. Taiwan Unveils First Domestically Built Submarine

Taiwan unveiled its first-ever domestically built submarine on Thursday, an accomplishment the island democracy’s leader hailed as a significant milestone as Taipei works to boost its military deterrence in the face of a growing threat from Beijing. President Tsai Ing-wen presided over a ceremony at the submarine’s shipyard in southern Kaohsiung city where the diesel-electric vessel was officially named “Narwhal” in English and “Hai Kun” in Mandarin – which can be loosely translated as “sea monster”. “The submarine is an important realization of our concrete commitment in defending our country,” Tsai said. “It is also important equipment for our naval forces in developing asymmetric warfare strategies.” In the past, many people thought building an indigenous submarine would b...

An explosion at a fuel depot in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh has killed 20 people and injured hundreds more

An explosion at a fuel depot in Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh has killed 20 people and injured hundreds more, local Armenian authorities say. Nearly 300 people were admitted to hospitals, with dozens of them "still in critical condition". It comes as the Armenian government said 13,350 refugees crossed into the country from the enclave. The disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region is home to a majority of some 120,000 ethnic Armenians. It is not yet clear what caused the explosion on Monday evening in the main city of Stepanakert. Human Rights Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan wrote on social media: "As a result of the explosion in the fuel warehouse, the number of injured exceeds 200. "The health condition of the majority is severe or extremely severe. The medical capacities of Na...

British Croc Expert Adam Britton Admits Sexually Abusing Dogs

A well-known British crocodile expert and academic has pleaded guilty to bestiality charges involving the rape, torture, and killing of dogs. According to Australian media, Adam Britton tortured and exploited more than 42 dogs until his arrest in April 2022. An Australian court was shocked after hearing the accounts of Northern Territory British crocodile expert Adam Robert Corden Britton, 51, who admitted to animal cruelty against dogs as well as possessing child-abuse material. After filming himself in the heinous acts, the Charles Darwin University professor would post the footage on online forums under aliases. Chief Justice Michael Grant said the crime, which resulted in the deaths of 39 dogs, "could only be described as grotesque cruelty" and urged members of the pub...

Floods in Libya leave 6000 dead and more Missing

Floods swept away and washing bodies back onto the shores of eastern Libya faster than the devasted city of derna could bury them. It was a struggle to even count them.  More than 5,000 people have been killed in the coastal city alone, with thousands more still missing and likely to be added to the death toll. Broken roads, failed communications networks, the legacy of years of civil conflict and the effects of climate change have all contributed to make Libya one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, said Elie Abouaoun, country director for Libya with the International Rescue Committee. The eastern Libyan port city was destroyed beyond recognition when two dams burst on the Wadi Derna River during a storm this week, causing waves 23 feet high to rush through th...
