The United Nations has issued a five-day traffic alert in Nairobi’s Gigiri area between Monday, February 28, and Friday, March 4.

the United Nations Office at Nairobi  (UNON) issued a traffic advisory to the residents living in Kenya’s capital and particularly around its headquarters.

Gigiri and Runda areas, and particularly the UN Avenue will be most affected by the traffic build-up.

UNON explained that the traffic will be as a result of the convention of the UN Environmental Assembly, the world’s highest environmental decision-making body. The event coincides with the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP’s) 50th anniversary.

The events will bring together representatives of the 193 member states of the UN, businesses and civil society and other stakeholders to agree on policies on the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

In line with this, there will be a traffic build-up in the area to allow free movement of the assembly attendees. Consequently, motorists have been advised to use other roads or other means of transport.

The convention, dubbed UNEA-5, will centre around the theme: “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.” It will highlight the pivotal role nature plays in the social, economic and environmental sustainable development.
