A wanted suspect behind the macabre killing of a 25-year-old woman was arrested as he sought to pick his belongings from the scene of the crime in Nyali, Mombasa.

Suleiman Mayanja, a Ugandan national who entered the country last month through the Busia border point, was busted by detectives at the Nyali Cinemax, where he was hiding Monday evening.

Police said Mayanja, had sent a runner to collect his belongings from the room which he had booked on September 30, when detectives pounced on him.

Unknown to the cab driver, undercover cops had laid an ambush in the apartment before he was arrested and later led police to the suspect’s hideout.

Police have established that the suspect who came into the country on September 1, 2021 and the deceased were not known to each other previously.

They had met a day before at a popular joint, where they made merry and imbibed a few drinks.

The said murder happened on Sunday, October 3.

Sunday’s meeting was their second. The deceased had joined Mayanja in the rented apartment before she met her demise at around 3 am Monday.

Her half dressed body was discovered by the apartment’s guard.

The man is believed to have killed the woman by throwing her from the balcony of their bedroom in Nyali’s Sunny Side apartments.

The suspect immediately fled the scene after committing the crime leaving other holidaymakers in the apartment heavily shaken.

A guard at the apartment said he heard delirious screams of a woman from the skies, followed by loud bang metres from where he was standing.

The woman had earlier in the night been invited to room A10, by Mayanja.

The guards immediately rushed to the room only to find its door wide open and the man missing.

Back at the scene, police said, vacationers who minute earlier were asleep enjoying the ocean’s soothing breeze, stood at a safe distance conversing in low tones.

Others peeped from the windows of their rooms with their mouths agape, at the sight of the horrific scene.

A postmortem is planned on the body to establish how she died.

This incident comes barely a day after two bodies belonging to a man and a woman fell from an apartment in nearby Mtwapa, in a mind-boggling incident that left more questions than answers.
