A 72-year-old man died instantly after shooting himself outside the emergency section of a hospital in Nairobi’s South B area.

Abdalla Mohamed is said to have shot himself in the chin while in the back seat of a taxi he had hired to drive him to the hospital.

Mohamed, who is a licensed gun holder, is said to have removed his Berreta Pistol from the safe and went to see his lawyer.

After the meeting with the lawyer, he requested a taxi from one of his long-term drivers. He then ordered the driver to take him to the said hospital, where upon arrival, he pulled out the gun and shot himself as he waited in the emergency area.

It was not clear what Mohamed was ailing from and the kind of medication he was looking for.

Sources say Mohamed rarely walked with his pistol, but on the fateful day, he took it out and went to see his lawyer.

Police are investigating the incident with the aim of unravelling the mystery behind the shooting.
